October 9, 2003 -- What is it about the French that makes them fall in love with murderers? Having done their best to protect Saddam Hussein from the U.S. military as a member of the notorious "Axis of Weasel," France's capital, Paris, has now bestowed honorary citizenship on a convicted cop-killer - the guilty-as-sin Mumia Abu-Jamal.

Too bad they can't send his electrocuted corpse to Paris for them to see the results of murder here in the US. (Most death row inmates don't deserve the needle. A stamping press would be better.)

The wines are no problem-for those that partake California has some of the best around. The cheese, well I found a wonderful cheese recently out at Trader Joes from Ireland called "Dubliner". But what about Dijon Mustard? Can't seem to find a replacement for it. Is it all grown in France or just grey poupon? Someone needs to emulate Greenpeace's tactics and unfurl a banner of officer Faulkner from the Eiffel tower. If anyone deserved an award in Paris, it was he. Wesley, Cook already!

BTW who sez you can't call him by his given name? Especially since his Afghani name means "One who wears the dreadlocks dremched in the blood of his murdered victims."

Well the mustard isn't grown in France just the Dijon (wine)part I think. Take some good ol' American French's (ack!!) or a more expensive brand like Medford's, put in a couple of teaspons of dry white wine and voila (ack!!) Grey Poopy mustard.

Just in the tiniest chance that we might forget French perfidy, they remind us.

We will be in a shooting war with France in my lifetime.

Hey, can y'all keep Angela? And then we've got a "few" more to send who'd fit right in. You can shove into any of the crumbling, crime infested ghettos that ring Paris and all your other major cities. Them's just the kind of communities they used to create over here, so I assume that's what they like. (Unfortunately the evil right-wingers shut down most of our ghettos.) Give 'em medals too, if you like. We could give a flyin'. Thanks, Froggies!

This made The Grapevine on Wednesday:

Honorary Citizen?

The city of Paris has named its newest honorary citizen: Mumia Abu-Jamal…the former Black Panther (search) member who was convicted of killing a white Philadelphia police officer in 1981.

The mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoe told a crowd of 200, "Mumia is a Parisian," and the crowd cheered and applauded.

Delanoe says he is trying to bring attention to the, "barbarity called the death penalty." Abu-Jamal's death sentence was overturned in 2001.

The New York Post article isn't too long to include here:

October 8, 2003 -- The French-fried brains of Paris have stooped to yet another low - bestowing the title of honorary citizen on notorious convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal.

The last time the wacky weasels handed out the title was in 1971 - to Pablo Picasso.

"Mumia is a Parisian!" Socialist Mayor Bertrand Delanoe shouted as he pumped his fist to the cheers of the crowd of about 200 mostly left-wing activists in a bizarre city ceremony over the weekend.

Abu-Jamal - a radical former Black Panther whose real name is Wesley Cook - was convicted in 1982 for the fatal, coldblooded shooting of Philadelphia city cop Daniel Faulkner during a routine traffic stop.

His death sentence was overturned in 2001, after years of outcry from everyone from international rights groups to a slew of Hollywood stars.

He remains on Pennsylvania's death row while an appeal is pending.

Delanoe claimed that the move to honor the U.S. felon was done to show support for France's opposition to the death penalty. The land of the guillotine abolished capital punishment in 1981.

"As long as there is a place on this planet where one can be killed in the name of the community, we haven't finished our work," Delanoe said, referring to the death penalty as "barbarity."

But one U.S. political analyst called the move merely a Parisian poke at Americans.

"[It's] a chance for France to tweak America's nose and try to proclaim their cultural superiority for not having capital punishment," Sterling Burnett, of the National Center for Policy Analysis, told Cybercast News Service.

Angela Davis, also a former Black Panther and now a professor at the University of California in Santa Cruz, accepted an honorary medal and certificate from Parisian officials in Abu-Jamal's name.

In doing so, Davis hailed the convict's "profound sense of humanity" while ripping U.S. "racist attacks against immigrants," as well as its "aggression against the Iraqi people."

No we won't.

They'll surrender too fast for there to be any shooting (c8

Definetely, the French need another ass-whipping from the Germans. We should have given them to the SOviets during the Cold War.

I was already committed to a lifetime boycott of French products before this. What more can I do? (she wondered aloud in mock innocence, as she turned her attention to the **implied threat of violence redacted**, now nearing completion in her basement workshop...)
