When you become the President, you cannot predict all the challenges that will come. But you do know the principles that you bring to the office -- and they should not change with time or with polls. I took this office to make a difference, not to mark time. I came to this office to confront problems directly and forcefully, not to pass them on to other Presidents and other generations. (Applause.) The challenges we face today cannot be met with timid actions or bitter words. Our challenges will be overcome with optimism and resolve, and confidence in the ideals of America.

(Applause) should be (Tremendous Applause). When he said this, the whole room went crazy. I had to laugh at loud at that direct slam to the "former occupant of the White House." Subtle but effective.

I wish I had tuned in earlier and recorded it (finally found it being shown live on a couple of webcams). I would like to find a recording of it. It was a very good speech---should have been given in prime time.

"Tens of thousands of Iraqi citizens are also guarding their own borders"
Hmmmmm... Could he say the equivalent about U.S. borders?
To: TomGuy
"National security"......would that be the same national security that leaves our borders WFO to 55,000 illegals each month strolling across?
Just how many damned strawberries can Americans eat?
Hire a guy to lead homeland security who states he won't do anything about the pitiful situation on the borders because of "cultural and political" reasons?
Can you say "selective law-enforcement"? Goooood boys and girls, I knew you could.
Hire a guy for the "new" section of homeland security who's parents were illegals?
"Economic policies"....like letting California's border go to the dogs....having the CA taxpayers foot the bill to provide medical care, schooling and in many cases housing / incarceration costs for the 400,000 illegals living there?
Borders are a national concern and a national responsibility.
If he keeps on listening to Rove and his hispanic pandering, he's screwed.
hmmmmmmmm.

(A few billion here, a few trillion there...we're all friends right?)

Though it's getting little media time, I've seen some reports of many great accomplishments occurring in Iraq.
I'm not supportive of many programs President Bush promotes, but I do believe in giving credit where credit is due, and it is due on the rebuilding and stabalization efforts his administration is undertaking.
