Mexico's Fox Says Bush Wants to Repair Rift

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican President Vicente Fox said on Friday that President Bush wanted to improve relations between the two nations, which were strained by Mexico's opposition to the U.S. war on Iraq.
``There are real intentions on his (Bush's) part to rekindle the relationship ... to take the time necessary to discuss not only the bilateral agenda, but the global agenda,'' Fox told reporters on a visit to the northern state of Tamaulipas after a telephone conversation with Bush on Friday morning.
Relations between Fox and Bush chilled after Fox's opposition to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March, although they agreed last month to meet face to face at the next APEC summit in Thailand later in October.
While they met briefly on the sidelines of a G8 meeting in France in June, their last formal bilateral meeting took place on Oct. 26, 2002, in Los Cabos, Mexico, during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.
``Both leaders said they looked forward to seeing each other in Bangkok and continuing their discussion,'' White House spokesman Scott McClellan said of the Bush-Fox call.
``They have a good relationship. The president looks forward to continuing the discussion,'' he said.
Fox told reporters the issue of Mexican migrants still topped the Mexico-U.S. bilateral agenda.
The White House put the issue on the back burner after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States. Before the attacks, Bush and Fox had been close to signing an immigration accord sought by Mexico.
``The first item (of discussion) for us, of course, is migration ... which we want to return to and take up where we left off,'' Fox said.

I suppose Bush is doing the right thing but I would treat Fox the same as I treat Chirac.

I've had it with Fox and Mexico's attempts to think they are going to bully us on the migrant issue. And how does Mexico deal with immigrant/migrants? Fox should shut up with his hypocrisy. I'm sick of Mexico and Fox thinking they can intrude on our sovereignty. Fox needs to fix Mexico's status because its still a hellhole.
To: Klickitat
Bush sure does want to make nice nice with Fox, by giving away OUR country! Like Mexico hasn't gotten enough revenue out of us with timeshares and vacations! And what does he give us back? All his illegals!

Don't know if you saw this thread, but if you look at my #70 you will find a link to S1387, the latest amnesty legislation in the senate.

does vicente call the shots? For some odd reason he does. Even though he's basically nothing more than a lame duck in Mexico now. His party lost 25% of it's congressional seats in the recent July elections.

A vast rift with molten lava from southern California to the Gulf of Mexico. That would be nice.
Fox owes us for dealing with Mexico's poverty. One estimate has it that we are harboring fully one tenth of Mexico's (former) population. The only thing Fox needs to know from Bush is when the deportees will be returning. He can begin financial reparation with the proceeds from Pemex Oil.
Where's that wall we need? Why aren't the troops there doing Job One: Protecting our nation from enemies foreign and domestic?

``There are real intentions on his (Bush's) part to rekindle the relationship ... to take the time necessary to discuss not only the bilateral agenda, but the global agenda," Out of curiosity, has anyone in politics asked the American citizen if they are for or against globalism, no sovereignty, the constitution at the mercy of trade agreements, the nation inundated with uneducated marxist voters, or are they just going to continue to shove it down our throats?

"..., or are they just going to continue to shove it down our throats?" I believe you answered your own question.
What makes a migration accord, that 70% of U.S. voters don't want, a priority?
Vicente must have something on Bush. Maybe pictures of Bush taken during some lost weekend in Mexico when he was younger. Something.

So, Mexico opposed the U.S. war on Iraq at a time when we were looking for friends. Now, Senor Fox wants to kiss and make up and to pickup where he left off on the immigration accord.
The word "huevos" comes instantly to mind.
