SANTA BARBARA, Oct. 10 /U.S. Newswire/ -- A leading California population control group lauded Governor-Elect Schwarzenegger's courage in promising to repeal a law allowing illegal aliens to obtain driver's licenses that was hastily signed by recalled Governor Gray Davis. However, the group called Schwarzenegger's promised action just a "first step of many" that need to be taken in order to slow California's skyrocketing population growth from immigration.
While campaigning for the governorship during the recall, Schwarzenegger challenged the wisdom of the illegal immigrant driver's license bill. The bill was one of the major policy differences between him and then Governor Davis. Many cite Schwarzenegger's position at the time as a turning point in the campaign.
However, in an about-face, the governor-elect said in his post election news conference that he might support amnesty for the millions of illegal aliens currently residing in California. His declaration quickly ended the "honeymoon" period for Schwarzenegger among many Californians.
"Amnesty for illegal aliens would be a total betrayal of the California voters," said Diana Hull, President of Californians For Population Stabilization (CAPS). "More than two thirds of California voters opposed the driver's license bill and you can rest assured that even more are opposed to the amnesty idea," she continued.
Hull says that amnesty has proven to be a failed public policy. According to CAPS the amnesty of 1986 was directly responsible for the increase of 8 to 11 million illegal aliens living in the U.S. today, many in California.
"Just talking about amnesty increases illegal immigration across our borders," Hull said. "Actually granting amnesty will fuel even greater increases and California is always the state that bears the brunt of that onslaught. Every poll conducted in California in the last 10 years shows vehement opposition to amnesty laws among the people of our state."
The group also opposes in-state tuition for illegal aliens which Schwarzenegger is expected to review soon after taking office. While his position is unknown on the tuition bill, most Californians are opposed.
"This governor has a very strong mandate from the people," Hull concluded. "Part of the mandate is a clear position against incentives for illegal immigration into our state. Governor Schwarzenegger needs to understand that as he takes office."

A basic law of human nature is to reward good behavior and punish bad behavior if you prefer good behavior.
That applies to Arab terrorists, for instance. If you reward the Palestinians for blowing up civilians, as has been done for the past 5 or 10 years, then they will naturally blow up more civilians.
And it applies to illegal aliens. If they think they will earn citizenship by breaking the law, then they will break the law. The more often you reward criminals, the more often they will commit more crimes.

If Aliens are capable of getting to California from the far reaches of the Galaxy, then they really shouldn't need to prove to the state their ability to navigate a vehicle.

Who cares what some wacko zero-population growth organization thinks? I heard about this on the news and this was the only article I found that wasn't from a San Francisco leftist rag!

If our laws were a deterant the illagals obviously wouldn't be here. So, on a personal basis what the hell difference will a CDL make to these people other then give them status in the state? (Duh). Recending the CDL to illagals would be the first patriotic and smart thing Arnie could do. Especially smart if he wants to suceed as a politician and desires another term as Governor.

Arnold is going to go back to the same legislature as just passed SB60 and ask them to repeal it.
Yeah right. So, I guess there's no reason to support the referendum is there?
Uh, huh. I just sent for a petition at saveourlicense.com.

Arnold is going to go back to the same legislature as just passed SB60 and ask them to repeal it. That is what I thought. Davis has been signing bills not executive orders. Arnold is powerless here unless he has pictures of democrats with farm animals.

"Arnold is powerless here unless he has pictures of democrats with farm animals."
The good news is that he probably does have said pictures. The bad news is that he is probably in the background of said pictures.

So you do you think Amnesty for illegal aliens
is a good idea?
Or do you realize Arnold has already come out for it?
That' the point it doesn't matter what group this is
we are discussing the Amnesty issue and Arnold support
for it not fundraising for the group.
To: Sharpshot613
And the mainstream would say it doesn't matter.
You can bet Bill Clinton is in those pictures!

In his first news conference the new governor said he wants to do everything to help "undocumented workers." He likes what Senator McCain, et al. are doing. So who needs a law giving drivers' licenses to illegals when all of them may soon be legal?
How many times is Congressman Tancredo allowed to vote? So it will pass both houses by a combined vote of 434 to 1. Co-president for domestic affairs Fox will sign it jointly with foreign affairs President Bush.
Yeah, go ahead and get rid of the law. There'll soon be no such thing as ILLEGAL anyway.

That's what bothered me about blaming Davis for the vehicle license tax increase...wasn't that legislation?
Maybe our saving grace with Ah-nold is the veto power.

That's what bothered me about blaming Davis for the vehicle license tax increase...wasn't that legislation? Yes, but it was not passed by a two thirds majority because it was supposedly a "fee." A similar tax has been thrown out by the courts. In the mean time, Davis gets to call it a balanced budget and knows that it will be thrown out, but he buys six months to a year until then.
