"The orthodox will be left spiritually homeless."

The orthodox are already spiritually homeless in some dioceses.

The future will be the age of the domestic church in many areas as the rot implodes...the gates of hell will not prevail.

Well this is all purely hypothetical but I'll speculate away. If AmChurch were to schism there would be the SSPX, the Eastern rites, the Orthodox and the Polish National (with their permission of course, and on a temporary basis), any others listed in your missal that we welcome to take part in our Communion ....

OR better yet....
Perhaps Rome could enlarge the FSSP quickly the already have a structure so all we would need was a mass importation of Roman Catholic priests. Rome wouldn't need to send money, we'd take up collections from wherever we could find to meet on Sundays.

Hey aren't you in St. Louis? You have nothing to worry about with Bishop Burke :-)

Mahony

You have my deepest sympathies. I must have been thinking of someone else.

Perhaps the Pope should come up with some standard sermons or Apostolic Letters that clearly set out essential articles of the Catholic Faith and command that they be read from the pulpit (not just printed up and left in the pews, and not edited by the priest reading it) once a year.

We have the doctrine. What we're lacking is people with the courage to preach it. Personally, I like writing cranky letters to the editor. It's the most read section of the paper, it's an easy way to reach those most "in need," and the price is right 8-).

The only thing of consequence in Massachusettes is what will happen to Nomar? :)

With the Patriots 11-2 all anyone wants to talk about on Boston Sports Radio is Nomaaah. It's making me crazy.

Well, not really. Maybe a little bit annoyed.

You can now visit there and pick up all kinds of printed information or take classes explaining new age practices... centering prayer, reiki, crystals, etc.

I can vouch for that. It also explains why the new chapel looks like an oversized rest room. We take the kids there every year to see the Christmas lights. The statues and lights are still marvelous.

If Boston is any indication of things to come, individual parishes with liberal pastors and parishoners could easily break away.

Here's one that already has, in the very wealthy town of Dover. It advertised on Boston radio heavily during "the scandals." The movement doesn't seem to have any legs though.

I didn't mean that the Catholics should copy sermons from the Anglicans (among whom I am numbered), but that JP II should come up with something on his own and use the idea of "here are standardized messages to be read to all congregations once a year".

I was at Fenway for the two games against Oakland in the ALCS playoffs. He came up a number of times where he could have helped the cause and only got the job done once. If we can replace him with A-Rod I say, "Sayonara".

"Amen, Amen, Amen! After 16 years of "Catholic" education I was ill prepared to understand, explain or defend the faith. This is, of course, a failure on several fronts: the Church failed to instruct, my parents failed to instruct and I failed to take the initiative to investigate a faith I claimed to hold."

This is a wonderful statement and it packs truth. I'm too was guilty of being an ill-prepared Catholic for the very reasons you mention above. I have since become more proactive in my search for the TRUTH which is the Catholic Church. For a period of time in my life, I really didn't know the Catholic Church was the TRUTH even though I was born, Baptized, and educated for 8 years into it's doctrine. I fell from that precious gift my parents gave to me for a period of time in my life because of sheer and utter ignorance. I have since come back into the fold and have a much deeper love for the Church and it's TRUTH, only by the sheer and utter grace of GOD.

Was the grace of God placed in me at an early age, lay dormant, and only in later life did it blossom? I can't say. I can't explain it. I do know NOW the Catholic doctrine to be so RICH and so POWERFUL, it's very essence can be lost on children and adolescents. But how does it lose it's appeal to the very adults who were raised in the Church's glorious TRUTH from birth and then move away from it and stay away from it, some even having a disdain for it. Some of my siblings fall into the "disdainful" category and it breaks my heart to see them fall into such falsities.

I have a theological question for anyone who happens to stumble upon this thread and can answer:

Does a Catholic who turns away from the Church and runs into the open arms of Protestantism have more to answer for to God on judgement day than a person who was born into the Protestant faith?

2 John 1:9 Whosoever revolteth and continueth not in the doctrine of Christ hath not God. He that continueth in the doctrine, the same hath both the Father and the Son.

Hmmm, both pastors have the same last name. Married priests and women priests, looks like they got a two-fer!

I learned that the Catholic Church has little to do with the actual New Testament covenant with Jesus Christ.

Which you learned from your interpretation of the New Testament? And where did the New Testament come from?

Answer.
