What online Bible do you use?

Posted on 01/10/2004 7:29:35 PM PST by PFKEY

I am trying to find a better online Bible with a powerful search engine.

The one I currently use is

http://www.hti.umich.edu/k/kjv/

It has a simple and clean interface but its search functions are severely lacking.

I prefer the KJV, NKJV, ASV or NAS but other suggestions are most welcome.

Try

Very good one.

LOL, in spite of the different URLs, it appears I posted the same one as you.

I use the Bible Gateway site, too. It has "Passage Lookup" and "Word Search" features. I often use the "Passage Lookup" to compare English translations from the NIV, ESV, NASB, and NKJV.

This is by far the best I've found. You can choose to search for words or specific passages, you can choose to search in New Testament, Old Testament, The Gospels, and so on. It offers about 15 versions and has Strong's with Numbers in KJV and NAS. Have a great '04.

Biblegateway. Sometimes I can't pick the right words for the search engine and have to try several times and different versions before I find what I'm looking for.

Thanks for asking the question. I'll review the responses. I use Biblegateway and listen to McClain read the NIV. I know a lot of people question this translation but he reads it beautifully and I really enjoy it as the spoken word. My vision isn't as good as it used to be and at 5:30 in the morning, I'm much more likely to pursue my daily readings if they are spoken as I read them.

PFKEY, a discussion group had one person make a comment that may be pertinent so will copy and paste it, FYI -->

"Actually, I rarely read my Bible anywhere except on my notebook computer anymore. I use the E-Sword program, available as shareware at www.e-sword.com. For $20, I bought the NASB module for it and at my fingertips, I have KJV, MKVJ, NASB, Revised, and others, along with many commentaries and the ability to organize my notes."

If you're looking for a Protestant (abridged :'}) Bible, the bible gateway has a great search engine. The US Converence of Catholic Bishops has the New American Bible here, and it's searchable. The Vatican has it here. Unfortunately, the only on-line Douay Rheims Bible I've found isn't searchable.

Greek Testament with a handy integral lexicon.

Vulgate. Unadorned text but quite useful for running down quotations.

Septuagint resources online.
