Usually the doctrine that is also dropped right on the heals of election is security of the believer. So then churches are preaching that you have to maintain your own salvation. This causes preaching to focus on self...

Again, I see your point, however we both agree that the saved must hear more than "salvation" messages Sunday after Sunday. Paul wrote all sorts of instructions and warnings to the early church which merit study and preaching. If that is "maintaining" one's salvation, I'm not sure why it would be wrong.

By maintain ones salvation I'm speaking of the doctrine that you can lose your salvation. When you believe you can lose your salvation it completely redefines what salvation is and what you need to be concerned with here on Earth.
