I stopped going to Mass when I saw a woman, a teenage girl do a "guest spot" on the altar reading from the bible. Actually, stop isn't the proper term, I got up and walked out never to come back again.
I didn't leave the Catholic Church, the new liberal agenda Catholic Church left me.
The only woman that belongs on an altar is for sacrifice in a bad, horror movie.

Altar or lectern? If your church has laymen reading from the Bible, what difference does it make to you whether the layman is male or female?

A girl (or woman) reading a passage from the bible as part of the service caused you to walk out?
Wow. You probably would have walked out of many an early New Testament church as well, since we know from scripture that prophesying and tongues speaking/interpretation of tongues are not gender specific gifts.

I read the First Reading or The Second Reading from the ambo once a month. What is wrong with a woman doing the readings? Men do it too, so I don't see the problem.
BTW, you are a baptized Catholic and, as such, are always invited back to the Church. Check around at the different diocese in New Jersey and find a church that has a returning Catholics progrma. I think you will get a lot of questions answered.
If it is a marriage matter, that too can be addressed, but only by the priest or deacon.
