My road to atheism was paved by science . . . But, ironically, so was my later journey to God. Lee Strobel, Yale Law School educated, award-winning legal editor at the Chicago Tribune
During his academic years, Lee Strobel became convinced that God was outmoded, a belief that colored his ensuing career as an award-winning journalist at the Chicago Tribune. Science had made the idea of a Creator irrelevantor so Strobel thought.
But today science is pointing in a different direction. In recent years, a diverse and impressive body of research has increasingly supported the conclusion that the universe was intelligently designed. At the same time, Darwinism has faltered in the face of concrete facts and hard reason.
Has science discovered God? At the very least, its giving faith an immense boost as new findings emerge about the incredible complexity of our universe. Join Strobel as he reexamines the theories that once led him away from God. Through his compelling and highly readable account, youll encounter the leading and most respected minds in science that have made the mind-stretching discoveries from cosmology, cellular biology, DNA research, astronomy, physics, and human consciousness that present astonishing evidence in The Case for a Creator.
The Case for a Creator, by Lee Strobel (ISBN 0310241448)
Astronomers are discovering that the Earth is anything but the unremarkable planet of popular science lore. It may very well be utterly unique in its ability to support intelligent life in an otherwise lethal universe.
Cosmologists agree that the universe arose suddenly out of absolute nothingness. But how? And how did it unfold with such painstaking precision?
As biologists continue to probe the cell, the more amazed they are at its intricacies complexities so staggering that they confound all naturalistic attempts to explain lifes origins.
Find out why one authority said, Its the atheist who feels very uncomfortable and marginalized today.

I've started reading it, so far very good. I heartily encourage other Freepers to check it out.

I've read most of the book so far.... it's fascinating, and I heartily recommend it.
One question for fellow FReepers... where can I find a good discussion / explanation of cause vs. chance? For example, someone could say that the odds that you read this post are very, very, small. But you did, and the fact that you did is not remarkable.
However, the fact that cosmological constant is what it is - and that it sustains the life the universe itself -is said to be totally, ridiculously small. One of out hundred billion times hundred billion, whatever. Or a more earthly illustration is I go to a mountain, and find rocks lined up to say, "Impeach the Supreme Court". The chance that THAT is random is absurd. But I don't have know of clear terminology to explain the truly absurdly improbable vs. the highly improbable-but-something-like-it-WILL-happen event.
Thanks,
-- Joe
