To further illustrate what I was saying about dogma:
http://www.fatimacrusader.com/cr74/cr74pg10.asp
It appears that bishops, priests, and yes even our dear deacons, have abandoned the defense of Catholic Dogma in favor of Assisi-style interfaith exercises and "caring for the dogs". I suppose you could say - Dogma has gone to the dogs!

Thanks for a great thread Narses. When the USCCB came up with their zero tolerance policy, designed for public consumption,I questioned whether or not some of the one time offender priests may not have ben exorcized. My thoughts were,if they had been exorcized, wouldn't holy Bishops, who had called for the exorcism considered the problem/crime/sin as addressed and resolved permanently?

It seemed to me that if a priest had been "possessed",and a successful exorcism had taken place, the priest should not be suspended, defrocked or laicized or what ever the term would be,nor should the Bishop be culpable. It would follow that successor B/bishops would also not be at fault.

I brought the possibility up pretty frequently on the religious forum and NEVER got a response from anyone. I also never heard the B/bishops even allude to that possibility. I decided that the "silence" was really strange and dropped it. Reading these comments brings it to mind again. Any thoughts?

Sorry, but I don't consider EWTN an unbiased source.

In theory, I agree. I am suspicious of the new Rite of Exercism though. In addition, politically there is little choice but to chant "Zero Tolerance".

Actually, Bishop Fiorenza lives in Houston. Bishops haven't lived in the Bishop's Palace for many, many years.

Yes,the new rite is weak. I am aware of Amsworth's book and his analysis of the deficiencies of the new rite. However,I was only speaking to the ancient rite as performed in the 70's and a priest who had never received another complaint.

"I want people to know that after 25 years as a Jesuit, Malachi did in fact receive a special dispensation personally from Pope Paul VI regarding his status within the Church," Fr. Fiore said. "That is perfectly rare, but also perfectly within the rights of the Holy See to grant."

That's good to know. I just finished reading his book, "Hostage to the Devil" and was very impressed. The book is very well written and solidly orthodox except for one error. In the chapter involving the case of the transexual, Martin asserts that it is more appropriate to call God female than male. Otherwise, I recommend the book without qualification for formed Catholics. It's a valuable resource for all us engaged in spiritual warfare.

"Hostage to the devil" persuaded me into performing an "asperges" (much like the asperges for High Mass) of our home with holy water every evening - not to mention increasing devotion to the Sacraments and the holy rosary.

Good fruit.

There are clear, published reports that acknowledge Fr. Martin's status. He was a faithful Catholic. The latest news from Rome is almost right out of the Windswept House, the part where HH realizes how badly the Church has been run under his stewardship. Fr. Martin stated that most of that books was truth, certainly the satanic story of Agnes has been verified by RCF. Given that the entire book revolves around the known facts of Satanism, peophilia and homosexuality in the corrupt American hierarchy, the head in sand attitude of some here amazes me.

It's a fact that the office of exorcist was gradually being phased out in the '60s, '70s and '80s, during a period of great moral decline within society and a decline in orthodoxy within the Church. This period also marked a creeping universalism within the Church and a corresponding failure to preach about hell. These events can only be seen as a great victory for Satan.

This pope finally urged that every archdiocese appoint an exorcist in the early '90s.

No, because it doesn't work that way. Exorcism is not a quick fix and usually takes a long period of time to actually work. Demons can be stubborn about leaving. Afterwards, a tremendous amount of prayer and living a Christian life is required to keep the demons from coming back. There's more than one, normally.

The other thing is that sodomy and child rape are crimes. Evil crimes. People who do this have already accepted evil and demons most likely will not bother them. The fact that they walk freely in a church says that they are not possessed in any way. YOu could do an exorcism, but it most likely won't make a difference.

And to correct on thing Aquinasfan said, the office of exorcist is held, actually, by every priest. Only the most mature and firmly faithful usually are appointed to the official possition. The office was suppressed and oppressed, gradually more forcefully, for about 100 years, but is on the comeback. There are over 300 now in Italy, according to Fr. Amorth and the demand for them is growing. Some countries don't have any officially, and that can be laid at the doors of the bishops in those countries.

You've every reason to be. Fr. Amorth has some choice things to say about it, none of them good. Cardinal Ratzinger, though, made sure that there is an out for them. With the bishop's permission, they can use the old rite. I would think any bishop who has an exorcist on staff, at this point, would allow it.
