Unfortunately, John Kerry isn't the only "Catholic" heretic in the world.
Plenty of bishops and cardinals - all appointed by the current pope - are just as guilty of this charge.
Anyway, don't you know that in the new religion you're not supposed to use words like heretic - it's called "hate-speech".
"Heretics" are now "people of faith with a different world-view".
"Apostates" are now "enlightened, progressive prelates".
Anti-Catholic protestant sects are now "our separated brethren in Christ".
Muslims are "a great religion" "who together with us worship one, merciful God".
It's all part of the "new ecclesiology" "in the spirit of Vatican 2".
Where have you been for the past 40 years?
"Apostates" are now "enlightened, progressive prelates".
Anti-Catholic protestant sects are now "our separated brethren in Christ".
Muslims are "a great religion" "who together with us worship one, merciful God".
It's all part of the "new ecclesiology" "in the spirit of Vatican 2".
And Traditional Catholics who practice the faith of their forefathers are called "schismatics".
Since I am under 40 and living among people who are willfully ignorant on church matters, the answer should be obvious.
I realize John Kerry is not the only heretic around. However, he is the only Catholic running for president (and thus receiving the lion's share of publicity) at this time and the only one making an issue of religion.

What new religion are you talking about? Either we are still Catholics, practicing the same religion we always have, though perhaps in a manner you don't like, or the gates of hell have prevailed.
