Thanks for reminding us of these brave members of the white-robed army of martyrs!

I located a fine DVD of Poulenc's "Dialogue of the Carmelites". It's Art Haus Musik 100019, recorded in 1999, of a Strasbourg production.

While the opera is a psychological drama, devoid of spectacle, the final scene is riveting. I sat there stunned at the end.

Thanks, Pyro.

Yesterday, the feast of our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Today, this great feast day.

Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiae,
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Hevae,
ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia, ergo, advocata nostra, illos tuos
misericordes oculos ad nos converte;
et Jesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,
nobis post hoc exilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Veni, creátor Spíritus,
mentes tuórum vísita,
imple supérna grátia,
quæ tu creásti péctora.

Qui díceris Paráclitus,
altíssimi donum Dei,
fons vivus, ignis, cáritas,
et spiritális únctio.

Tu septifórmis múnere,
dígitus patérnæ déxteræ,
tu rite promíssum Patris,
sermóne ditans gúttura.

Accénde lumen sénsibus,
infúnde amórem córdibus,
infírma nostri córporis
virtúte firmans pérpeti.

Hostem repéllas lóngius
pacémque dones prótinus;
ductóre sic te prǽvio
vitémus omne nóxium.

Per Te sciámus da Patrem
noscámus atque Fílium,
teque utriúsque Spíritum
credámus omni témpore.

Deo Patri sit glória,
et Fílio, qui a mórtuis
surréxit, ac Paráclito,
in sæculórum sǽcula. Amen.
