Nuns give to pro-abortion group

The Immaculate Heart of Mary sisters of Michigan have donated $200 to a pro-abortion-rights political action committee that works to get like-minded women elected to office.
The donation to Emily's List, says the nuns' vice president, was simply meant to help women in the political process.
"We weren't making a political statement in terms" of abortion, Sister Mary Katherine Hamilton told the Detroit Free Press.
The Roman Catholic Church is staunchly opposed to abortion and leaders have called for the censure of Catholic politicians who support the procedure.
The donation, made in August 2003, may get the sisters in hot water. The Archdiocese of Detroit spokesman said officials were puzzled by the action and that Cardinal Adam Maida, who has repeatedly spoken about "the moral evil of abortion," would be "prepared, if necessary, to address what happened with the appropriate pastoral response," according to the Detroit paper.
"Supporting legitimate causes for the advancement of women is one thing," McGrath told the Free Press. "Support for Emily's List, with its defining litmus test for abortion rights, is quite something else."
The sisters' order is known for its social activism, donating about $25,000 annually to various causes, including the League of Conservation Voters and Common Cause.
Hamiliton told the paper the order donated to Emily's List because many of the candidates the PAC supports share the IHM's positions on issues such as human rights, the environment, the economy, children and education.
According to the report, Paul Long, executive director of the Michigan Catholic Conference, denounced the donation to Emily's List, saying there are other ways to suppport women in politics, without "contributing to an organization that solely promotes the destruction of human life."

Hopefully even die-hard neo-Catholics, in the face of overwhelming evidence (of which this is only another straw in the haystack), will finally reconsider their support for the novus ordo corruption. The time to choke the supply lines to modernist criminals is long overdue.

Yes it is time to defund this dispicible evil. Our brotherhood, sisterhood, clergy and episopal is literally infested with these vomitous anti-God leftists.

I happened to catch sight of the front story of today's Detroit Free Press, which basically stated that it is okay for Catholics to support pro-abort politicos. Actually, I think the actual headline read "Catholics can vote pro-choice." Either way, doesn't matter to me. The way the RC heirarchy is handling the issue here in Michigan has me not only withholding monetary donations, it has me seriously considering the Orthodoxy.
Emily's List...oy vey.

Your use of the term "neo-Catholics" and "novus ordo corruption" is inaccurate and needlessly insulting. Orthodox Catholics faithful to the deposit of faith and the magisterium condemn the sort of action by heretic nuns like these.
To: Diago
Just throw them out of the nunnery, and make them get a real job. They won't be able to make it.

What unutterable slop your response is. To equate these anti-Catholic nones with all those who remain obedient to the Magisterium is hysterical rant. Get off the computer, go far away to a place where you can take a nice long undisturbed rest.

To equate these anti-Catholic nones with all those who remain obedient to the Magisterium is hysterical rant.Who is being hysterical here, the other poster, or someone reduced to using terms like "slop" and saying "get off the computer"? And is there really any difference between these nuns and any other ones, "loyal to the magisterium" or not? The Daughters of St. Paul, for example, are famous for still wearing habits and printing all the papal encyclicals, yet they are closing up their convents in many cities.
Speaking of closing up shop, here is another article relating to the IHM nuns in Detroit:
HOLY REDEEMER'S RESIDENT NUNS: Storied convent soon will go silent
After 122 years, Monroe-based order will shutter Detroit home Four blue-robed Immaculate Heart of Mary nuns arrived at Vernor and Junction in 1882 to open a convent, in a neighborhood then known as Springwells. They ate their first meal, provided by a parishioner, on their knees beside an overturned bed frame serving as a table...
On Saturday, IHM nuns who lived at the convent will gather there for a private commemorative mass and to share memories, including when someone left a baby on the stoop and when actor Donald Sutherland whipped them up breakfast omelettes. A few IHM nuns will continue teaching at the thriving Holy Redeemer schools, but they will not live in the convent, which once housed as many as 55 nuns when the Detroit church was considered one of the largest English-speaking parishes in the world.
This summer, Sister Elizabeth will move into an apartment in the neighborhood. She also will continue her longtime activism in the peace movement. On Thursday, Sister Josephus Seiler, 76, watched as a moving van carted away her boxes, a computer, a TV set and a chair.

Then what do you think Cardinal Miada will do to these sisters??? How about Bishop Pilla and the Sisters of St. Joseph in Rocky River, Ohio??
Silence is a form of affirmation.

The Detroit Free Press article:
http://www.freep.com/news/religion/sisters7e_20040907.htm
The Rev. Thomas Reese, a longtime Vatican observer and Jesuit priest who edits America magazine, said the sisters' donation falls into the parameters of Catholic doctrine.
That's especially true after the Vatican's Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger said it's OK for Catholic abortion opponents to support pro-choice candidates if they agree with the candidate's other stands.
"I think the same principles that Cardinal Ratzinger articulated on voting would also be pertinent in terms of donations to support a candidate," Reese said.
