May I add (albeit from the more worldly realm and certainly subservient to Baxter's Godly truths)-- someone once told me that in a good marriage both people strive to be empathetic and flexible.
I think those are wonderful qualities for living a rewarding, generous life in partnership.
That and two bathrooms. 8~)
My IRRESISTIBLE Grin!
She'll love that.
:>)
A husband's failure to fulfill his duties, does not allow a wife to have a self-righteous bitterness toward her husband. As a joint member of the marriage covenant, a wife's proper response should be to pray for her husband to see his covenantal duty and desire it.
Instead of a Haehnchen, I prefer a Brezel with my Weissbier!
LOL! You're off to a great start on the GRPL, Suzi.
Yeah, where's the wife's duties?
Have you read The Excellent Wife by Martha Peace? If you are looking for wifely duties you'll find them listed there with all the appropriate bible references.
The author sounds like he's never been married, or he's a tard.
Keep you chin up; sound cheerful when he calls; send weekly care packages; don't bad mouth the Corps; when you do cry, know that you are not alone.
Know that this FReeper is praying for his safe return
Lazamataz, I think.
Thanks. I thought so, too.
Interesting article, btw, but I just don't like beer!
Let us all look on the Spirit, and not the physical. It is time to grow up on this issue. We should each build up one another. Each of us - male or female, husband or wife - should strive to submit one to another and stop fussing over foolish words and traditions of men. Let the Bible speak for itself, don't add meaning.
"Government" of the wife is never Biblically mandated. Definitely not in the manner that the children and slaves were to be "ruled."
I will not be back to discuss this, however, we who are in Christ are no longer under the curse of the fall of Creation. I am a child of God, fully reconciled to Him, by Him, through His Son, Jesus Christ. I was circumcised by Christ, without hands. I am just as much a priest of God as my husband is.
That's OK, there is just more for the rest of us.
Thank you for posting this. This made it into our family devotions Wed. evening.
A discussion allowing the Bible to speak for itself will teach headship. The apostle Paul will discuss it with you if you let him, start with 1 Cor. 11:3 and Ephesians 5:22-24.
I am not discussing the "headship" or "government." But, I do have to ask you, don't you think, in light of the very careful wording of my post, that I have studied these verses?
Okay, one tiny comment about "headship": Think about what the "headship" means in light of "Hear oh Israel, The Lord Our God is One." (Deuteronomy 6:4, Mark 12:29) "My Father and I are One" "The Word was with God and the Word was God." (the Gospel of John) "I am God and there is no other, I am God and there is none like me" (Isa. 46). There is more about this in Colossians, especially the first chapter.
Our God is One. Jesus is one with God and Jesus is God and human and the Holy Spirit is God and Jesus and Jesus is the image of God.
Christians are monotheistic, we do not have *three* gods. The discussion of Jesus' subordination vs. Jesus as God is as old as Christianity, itself.
This argument about who is head and who is subordinate is a human way to see and understand what we can't. Like all our efforts, as creatures rather than Creator, we cannot understand That which is outside our universe, our spacial and linear time frame. We should be very careful in what we say when we try to fit Him and His servants into our understanding.
But, I am certain that I don't worship 2 or 3 gods. My God is One. And He became "One with us" in a way that I don't understand and can't quite explain. He did this as sacrifice for us in order to reconcile us fully to Him. I only have One High Priest, One Mediator, One Head.
