Posted on 11/21/2004 2:48:08 PM PST by atari

Im catholic, but I wasnt raised in a religious household.

Im totally clueless about most Protestant denominations especially, and If any would tell me the differences between them, or point me to a site that would help, that would be great. :-)

Interesting, seeing as how Luther and other "reformers" took away from the Christian canon of Scripture.

>>corrupted the True Church.

Christ promised against corruption of Bride, and your statement contradicts Him.

*People* are corrupt in the Church, but the Church as a whole is protected against corruption by the Holy Spirit. There have been high points, and low points in the history of the Church, but the unholy corrupt people died while the Church thrived.

Would highly recommend you read CS Lewis book "Mere Christianity"

His advice at the end about choosing a denomination is good.

Differences can be looked at from a variety of angles.

1. History....time of appearance of X denomination on the timeline.

2. Hierarchy....you have those that are very hierarchical all the way to those that have little (if any) apparent leadership (traditional Quaker.)

3. Sacrament ....those with supreme emphasis on specific religious rites all the way to those that appear to have loosely organized worship service.

4. Scripture ...those that have an critically central place for scripture and those that do not have scripture at the center of their worship. (I'm not including those as Christian that reject the authenticity of Scripture.)

5,6,7.... Other areas beyond time to relate.

Lutheran: None. Lutherans don't believe in change.

Only if you're Wisconsin Synod. Otherwise you're going to Hell! :)

"Which of you ... if he had an oxen in the ditch ... would not get it out?" Any Evangelical worth their salt knows most of the time what to do and when to do it in just about any situation. This is because a person who has studied the Bible understands life, man, and the world.

One difference between Catholics and Baptists is that Catholics greet each other at the liquor store.

And us Baptists just avert our eyes.;-)

>>>You'll be surprised to find out there that there is not much difference between post VaticanII Catholicism and protestantism.

A most uneducated opinion if I must say so. There are tons of differences, many not very minor.

Oh it has been a process. From corrupt Popes to Maryolatry to making saints out of human beings. Jesus would curse these practises in the same manner he chastised the Pharisees for their stupid religious excess. Christ's lambs hear his voice. RC churchianity adherants are listing to a different voice.

Your# 18.......

It's extremely simple....

........just like all of the different catholic churches,.....it's a question of which one is 'true' ....reigning/empire.....Israel!

All of these 'christian churches' claimed to have replaced national Israel as god's accepted/chosen people.

These churches claim to be the 'New' (reigning/spiritual) Israel.

(It's known as 'Re-placement' theology!)

Don't be preoccupied with differences.

Just read a Bible if you have one and you'll be fine.

>>and corrupted the True Church.

LOL.... When exactly did this happen? Please give me a year.

382 is as good as any. That was the year Damasus slaughtered his way into the Papacy.

It was considered that as candidate for the Bishopic of Rome, he had gone a bit to far. So to compensate for lost prestige, he initiated the claim to be "Successor to St Peter" and head of the Chriatian Churh

After that it was a constant quest for power, and the Popes became coruppted rulers. Although with no defined path to the top, considerably more ruthless than their secular counterparts.

Could you please tell me what Pagan raditions the Roman Catholic Church co-opted? If you are talking about taking Pagan holiday dates and making Christian HOLYDAYS out of the same days, then I will agree....but otherwise, I think you are totally wrong.

Those are broad sweeping charge, of which you provide no specific examples.

And the voices that are heard in non-catholic churches are those of men (and in some cases women) who organized their system of theology around the God they created in their own images.

If you aren't Catholic (or close to one, ie Orthodox, etc), you follow a man (or woman) made religion. Instead of hearing the voice of Christ in these Churches, you hear the voice of:

Amy Semple Mcpherson, John Calvin, Zwillig,
John Alexander Dowie, Maria Woodworth-Etter, Charles Parham, William Seymore, Smith Wigglesworth,Martin Luthor, William Branham, A.A. Allen, Jack Coe, and Kathryn Kuhlman...

What is interesting to note is how the denominations which arose from the works of these people quite often contradict one another. I don't think Christ intended to have competing theologies -- that's the work of man, and the crown jewel of protestanism.

Catholics floow

What is the TRUE Church in your eyes? Jesus's Disciples founded the Catholic Church with Jesus' and the Holy Spirit's guidance....so what other Church are you talking about? There was NO Church before Jesus.

he other weirdos are the cults who claim to be Christian but are not. These include Mormons and Jehovah's Witness. They have violated the Bible by adding to and subtracting from it and creating cults outside the bounds of Biblical Truth.

Well that certainly didn't take very long, now did it?
