But as for me, my prayer is to thee, O LORD.
At an acceptable time, O God,
in the abundance of thy steadfast love answer me.
With thy faithful help
rescue me
from sinking in the mire;
let me be delivered from my enemies
and from the deep waters.
Let not the flood sweep over me,
or the deep swallow me up,
or the pit close its mouth over me.
Answer me, O LORD, for thy steadfast love is good;
according to thy abundant mercy, turn to me.
Psalm 69:13-16
There was a huge 8.9 earthquake off of Sumatra last night, and tsunamis and other large aftershock quakes followed. There is talk of 5000-6000 people killed, mostly by drowning, and thousands of displaced people.
Please join me today in praying for the people whose lives have been shattered by this event, Christian, Moslem, Buddhist or Hindi, who are all equally precious in God's sight, no matter what the difference in their faith is.
Amen to your prayer.

Please add prayers and links you think would be good for this...it's an incredible disaster.
O Lord,
into your hands
we commend all those with aching hearts,
and battered souls,
and aching bodies
and the emptiness
that life so often brings.
O Lord,
you too know
the ache that comes from being rejected,
the taste of dust,
the feeling of exhaustion,
how the darkness in men's hearts can hurt
those who don't deserve it,
and for this,
you came
to teach,
to heal,
to save.
O Lord,
let us who know you
hear your voice in our hearts,
be your hands
to soothe the pain of another,
be your voice
to say your word to one in need,
to be your tool to reach out and heal,
this day and always,
Amen.
Amen.
Prayer to Jesus, Our Divine Mercy
O Lord,
Sweet Jesus,
Our Divine Mercy
who offers it freely
to all who will come,
make our hearts like yours.
Help us to see with your eyes,
so that we do not see enemies,
but your children,
so that we do not see the angry young man,
but a soul who needs your healing,
so that we see those frustrated with abuse
who long to strike out
as souls in need of your help and peace,
so that we see those who would take our lives
as those marred by sin,
but still your children.
Help us to act with your mind,
to deal mercifully with all those whose lives we touch,
to know that there are real people
who make the items we buy,
who give us service,
who come for help,
who work for us,
who make our lives possible.
Help us to love with your heart,
not just the friends of our daily life,
but all those who need love,
and respect,
and care,
especially those
who are hard to love.
Amen.

Hear my prayer, O LORD;
let my cry come to thee!
Do not hide thy face from me
in the day of my distress!
Incline thy ear to me;
answer me speedily in the day when I call!
Eternal Father,
I offer you the body and blood,
Soul and divinity

In atonement for my sin,
and those of the whole world.
For the sake of his sorrowful passion,

Eternal rest, grant them O Lord,
and may the perpetual light shine upon them.
And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Talk about "...let them eat cake!" That's just what they need. They are wondering why their false gods haven't saved them and why this happened. Now they should be ensnared with another emotional manipulation/false goddess into more mere ceremony/emotional busywork that is in truth witchcraft? They will receive a care package and find not food or drink or shelter but boxes and boxes of beads?! Or maybe the Romanists will be more subtle and wrap the beads around the little cakes offered to the supposed queen of heaven as if they were a free toy?
CLASSIC Roman Catholic non-mercy... the best prayer you have is evil to your neighbor and you truly mean the best--AND you earned your way to heaven at their expense just a smidgen more by merely saying it, at least in your own mind.
May God in Truth deliver all those souls from the lies that will descend on them as to 'why' this happened and 'how' they should deal with it. May they in Truth hear Him as Word.
Psalm 115:2-18 Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God? But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased. Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not: They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not: They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat. They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them. O Israel, trust thou in the LORD: he is their help and their shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield. Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield. The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron. He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great. The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children. Ye are blessed of the LORD which made heaven and earth. The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD'S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men. The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence. But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the LORD.
Job 1:20-22 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen
O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy Word,
Who walked on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
O Trinity of love and power!
Our family shield in dangers hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect us wheresoever we go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.
Dear friends,
I do ask you to come here together to pray.
If you do not pray in the catholic manner, that is fine, although this thread is pinged as a catholic prayer thread.
If you do not pray in the protestant manner, that is fine, but know that this thread is pinged as a catholic prayer thread.
Today, I have prayed the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, several psalms, dedicated a mass intention, and many, many direct prayers for these people.
We have hard work here to do. There is great grief and misery, and the God who gave himself for us asks us to be his body on earth, and to be vigilant and faithful servants.
First, let us pray.
Second, as we are moved,let us let God use us as he sees fit.
We don't really have time to fight interdemoninational battles on this thread.
A prayer:
O Lord,
this day I offer you my tears,
tears of sorrow,
the grief that each day brings,
both for me and others
in this dark valley we call life,
for acts committed,
for acts not done,
for words of hurt.
O Lord,
this day I offer you my tears,
tears of pain,
both mine and theirs,
pain that wakes one in the night,
pain that comes unbidden,
pain with each step,
pain that haunts us in this dark valley.
O Lord,
This day I offer you my tears,
tears of repentance,
for all the deeds I did poorly,
for all the deeds I left undone,
for the deeds that others do
the hurts of others' sin
that I so wish I could heal
in this dark valley we wander in.
O Lord,
you are the light in our dark valley,
you who walked each step of the way,
you who hold our hands,
who knows our sorrows, and pain, and grief.
Keep me close, Lord,
no matter the tears,
until that day you dry every eye
and in our joy,
we will weep no more.
I have been watching news of this quake with my heart in my throat, as our daughter is in Cambodia at a coastal resort. By the good grace of God, she changed her plans from a trip to Thailand (Phuket !) to Cambodia. My viewing of the map shows that Cambodia has been spared by the peninsula of Thailand. Of course, we can't get thru by phone, but accept that she has been spared, tho we do pray for her friends who went on to Thailand, and for all who were swept away and lost in this tragedy. It is going to be a long couple of days till we can talk with our daughter again, but we believe we will talk to her again.
That is a bit of bright news in such a dark story. Please let us know when you hear from her!
