GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. Rolling Stone magazine has reversed itself and agreed to accept an advertisement for a new translation of the Bible.
After first rejecting the advertisement, Rolling Stone sent the publisher, Zondervan, a contract for a half-page ad in the music magazine's Feb. 24 issue, said Doug Lockhart, executive vice president of marketing at the nation's largest Bible publisher.
Lisa Dallos, a spokeswoman for Rolling Stone publisher Wenner Media LLC, said Tuesday that the company had "addressed the internal miscommunications that led to the previous misstatement of company policy" and that company officials "apologize for any confusion it may have caused."
Grand Rapids-based Zondervan, a division of HarperCollins Publishers, had bought space in the magazine months ago as part of an ad campaign for a new Bible translation aimed at young people.
But about two weeks ago, Zondervan said it was told that Rolling Stone's policy was not to accept advertisements for religious materials.
Other media outlets that agreed to carry the ad include Modern Bride, The Onion, MTV.com and AOL, Mr. Lockhart said.

with all the (anticipated) rewording, the TNIV could hardly be called a "real Bible".
Even tho it might not meet a KJV'ers standards I think it is great that people are being exposed to the Word. I'm not aware of how much rewording is to be done .. ..but this could get people who would never look at a Bible to pick it up and read it and maybe get saved even! That would be cool. You'd have to agree that the KJV seems daunting to a beginner.
I sometimes have four versions at once and look at the different ways a scripture is worded per interpretation ... KJV, NIV, Amplified and Living Bible. If I can't get understanding with four examples, I'm sunk. ; >
Download The NET Bible, for another reference to have open. We're partial to the NKJV, though I use that one, the KJV, NIV, The NET Bible, Matthew Henry, and BLB.

what is misleading?
it works for me
I'm perhaps jumping the gun, I've not read the TNIV so I don't know what changes they've made..... Misleading in that, maybe, their belief isn't in the God of the Bible, and the Jesus that I know through the KJV, NKJV, NIV. i.e. the non gender-favorable translations and versions.
Speculation will get me nowhere.
