The articles are about many more issues than just gay priests, and there are many more subject priests in the referenced stories than the two you mentioned.

Not sure I understand your point. Or are you holding out that all or a majority of the problems highlighted in the articles above are because of priests who were ordained in the 50s?

Looks like that springtime of perversity was going strong in the '50s, and maybe earlier ... but the earlier victims are conveniently dead. The difference between now and the '50s is that the perversity is being uncovered and dealt with. It casts clearer light on the Papal directive in 1960 that fags were not to be admitted to seminaries or to be ordained. There appears to have been a good reason for the Pope to issue that directive.

The lack of priests and the consequent closing (or in my diocese, delay in opening) of churches is directly related to delay in purging the priesthood of poofters. See "Goodbye, Good Men" for details.

Some folks like to blame the Vatican II Bogeyman for all evil in the Church. Trouble is, the evil that they are rightly protesting is older than Vatican II. Some folks are uncomfortable with that fact. They shouldn't be. The Truth will make you free.

Couple of other comments:

The revelation of all this perversity, and the consequent cleansing of it is a springtime sort of thing. It's spring cleaning. And it's about bloody time. Perhaps the upheaval following Vatican II was necessary in order to bring all sorts of festering evil to the surface where it could be dealt with. The Holy Spirit Knows what He's doing, and I'm not about to second guess Him. Perhaps you would rather that this mess just continued to be swept under the rug, like it was in the '50s?

There's no Resurrection without the Crucifixion; no Easter without Lent, no Christmas without Advent; no Absolution without Confession. And there's no purging of the poofters without first publicly identifying the poofters and making reparation (to the extent that such can be done) for their sins.
