That said, there is no arguing that they were nowhere near as prolific as they've become. Whether or not that's a direct result of V-II is hard to determine. In fact I would be inclined to believe that as problematic as Vat II is, in and of itself it doesn't have much to do with prolific faggery.
Hmmm ... That's actually the problem ... I think there is arguing that point. As faggotry has become more socially acceptable in an increasingly deviant society, they're much more willing to come out of the closet, and they've been more 'succesful' in keeping the Good Men out of many seminaries. A common thread in the clerical pederasty stories, though, is that they go back as far as living memory. The first generation of priests (and nuns) to "implement the spirit of vatican 2" back in the late '60s and early '70s was by definition composed of folks who received their training before Vat II. I remember them first hand ... sure, there were the young radicals and swishy types, but there were also old fogeys leading the charge of wierdness. I can only wonder how many of them were queer. I am becoming convinced, however, that the higher profile of collared queers today is a combination three factors: secular social acceptance of perversion, the deliberate purging of "Good Men" from many seminaries, and the uncovering of abuse that had been covered up for decades. The first is a problem of the greater society, which the Church must evangelise (and has not done). The second is being (very slowly) cleaned up. The third is actually a good thing, albeit painful.
