Have you ever wondered if it were practical or even possible to do an entire thought or sermon using only Scripture? Let's try it, let us see if you can follow along when only Scripture used, no commentary, no explanations, Scripture and only Scripture.
So shall My word be that goeth forth out of M mouth: it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. (Isaiah 55:11 ACP/KJV)
"what must I do to be saved?" (Acts 16:30b ACP/KJV)
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (John 3:3b ACP/KJV)
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
For the scripture saith, WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH ON HIM SHALL NOT BE ASHAMED. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:9-12 ACP/KJV)
There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto Him, "Rabbi, we know that Thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him." Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus saith unto Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?" Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
Nicodemus answered and said unto Him, "How can these things be?" Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but He that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him(Jesus) should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved. He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
And this is the condemnation, that Light(Jesus) is come into the world, and men loved darkness(satan) rather than Light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the Light, neither cometh to the Light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the Light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. (John 3:1-21 ACP/KJV)
But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us, ven when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
That in the ages to come He might shew the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:4-9 ACP/KJV)
And there were also two other, malefactors, led with Him to be put to death. And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted His raiment, and cast lots.
And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God." And the soldiers also mocked Him, coming to Him, and offering Him vinegar, and saying, "If Thou be the king of the Jews, save Thyself."
And a superscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS." And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on Him, saying, ""If Thou be Christ, save Thyself and us."
But the other answering rebuked him, saying, "Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this Man hath done nothing amiss."
And he said unto Jesus, "Lord, remember me when Thou comest into Thy kingdom."
And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with Me in paradise. (Luke 23:33-43 ACP/KJV)
There, the plan of salvation from "What must I do to be saved?" to proof that salvation is through Grace and not by works, tithing or traditions.
Sure. Matthew 5:3 - 7:27.
The absopulte best sermon I ever heard done was the one he did by simply reading matthew 5,6,&7.
Identifying pronouns is ok, but, only if you are sure who the pronoun refers to.
Not as easy as it sounds.
Hey, what part of kentucky are you from? Our senior editorial writer, Danny Calhoun, is from Somerset. And the oparent of Christian-news-in-maine.com's associate pastor is from Elizebeth or Elizebethtown, the one up by Fort knox.
I know the places well. I'm from the 'big city' of Louisville.
Oh well, it wasn't an original sermon for me anyway. Although the thought of using the sermon on the mount as an actual sermon is pretty intriguing.
BTTT...........FYI
ping for later
Simply recite Matthew, chapters 5, 6 and 7. (The Sermon on the Mount)
If you read it well and only add commentary that is absolutey necessary, I think you will be surprised at the results. Took about forty minutes if memeory serves me correctly.
Example:
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
Now here, if you went to one of the verses that dealt with blessed are you when you are prosecuted for doing right, for if you are persecuted for doing wrong, you are only getting what you deserve
See what I mean, I'm not sure what verses he used when I ehard it, but, every once in a while the pastor used a seperate verse or two from the Bible to explain the verses being read.

Hey, not bad. Pretty interesting test of Scripture and knowledge of it isn't it?
Happy for an opportunity to preach the gospel, by God's grace.
