Prayer Thread - Prayer for the Conclave
4/10/05 | Knitting a Conundrum

Posted on 04/10/2005 7:55:07 AM PDT by Knitting A Conundrum

O God our Father,

You are our Eternal Shepherd and Guide. In your love, grant your Church a new shepherd who will walk in your ways and whose watchful care will bring us your blessing.

Help him be an example of Christ to those who see him..

Give him also a  courageous heart to stand for your truth.

Give him a tender heart so that he may look at people with the eyes of. Christ.

Fill him with your wisdom, O God, that he may steer the church in the paths you ask him to.

Be with the Cardinals as they search prayerfully during the time before and during the conclave, that they may be touched and filled with the Holy Spirit, acting in accordance with your will, and not the will of others.

We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who  lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

O Lord, we pray your mercy on the Church and the cardinals as they do your work in choosing the successor of Peter.

Holy Mary,  help of Christians,  pray for them.
St. Joseph, pray for them.

Saint Ambrose, pray for them.
Saint Jerome, pray for them.
Saint Augustine, pray for them.
Saint Athanasius, pray for them.
Saint Gregory Nazianzus, pray for them.
Saint John Chrysostom, pray for them.
St. Anselm, pray for them.
St. Thomas of Canterbury, pray for them.
St. Patrick, pray for them.
St. Martin of Tours, pray for them.
St. Charles Borromeo, pray for them.
Holy bishops, who in life knew how important the role of leading the church is,
pray for the cardinals at this time.

O Blessed Mother,
spread your mantle over these, the servants of your Son.

O Jesus, meek and humble of heart,
have mercy on us,
especially on those you have appointed to guide us,
and may your voice reach into their hearts
and kindle in them the fire of divine love,
this day, and always.

Amen.

Please Join Our Novena for the Election of the Next Pope

Please Join Our Novena for the Election of the Next Pope
04/10/05

Pray with us through the "Nine Days of Mourning" until the papal conclave begins.

The Novena prayer consists of:

1. The Veni Creator

Come, Holy Ghost, Creator, come.
From thy bright heavenly throne!
Come, take possession of our souls,
And make them all Thine Own!

Thou who art called the Paraclete,
Best gift of God above,
The Living Spring, The Living Fire,
Sweet Unction, and True Love!

Thou who are sevenfold in Thy grace,
Finger of God's right hand,
His Promise, teaching little ones
To speak and understand!

O guide our minds with thy blest light,
With love our hearts inflame,
And with thy strength, which ne'er decays,
Confirm our mortal frame.

Far from us drive our hellish foe,
True peace unto us bring,
And through all perils guide us safe
Beneath thy sacred wing.

Through Thee may we the Father know,
Through Thee the Eternal Son,
And Thee the Spirit of them both —
Thrice blessed Three in One.

Now to the Father, and the Son
Who rose from death, be glory given
With Thee, O holy Comforter,
Henceforth by all in earth and heaven.

Amen.

2. The collect (prayer) of the Missal for the election of a Pope

O Lord, with suppliant humility, we entreat Thee, that in Thy boundless mercy Thou wouldst grant the most holy Roman Church a pontiff, who by his zeal for us, may be pleasing to Thee, and by his good government may ever be honored by Thy people for the glory of Thy name. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who with Thee livest and reignest world without end. Amen

3. An invocation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, such as:

Most Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us who have recourse to Thee!

O Holy Spirt,
as on the day of Pentecost
as you fell on those gathered
with fire and power,
be with those gathered
in a different cenecle,
asking for your guidance,
open their hearts to your promptings,
and fill them with the fire of your love,
and out of this,
we ask for the will of the Father
as they select our next pope.

Amen.

O Jesus,
you who said,
Upon this rock I will build my church
and the gates of hell will not overwhelm it,
we pray for the coming conclave,
knowing your hand will be fully on it,
that the Holy Spirit,
like living fire, will be there in their midst,
guiding the men on whose task
it is to choose the successor of Peter.

O Lord,
we pray for their hearts,
that they may hear your promptings.
We pray for their lives
that they may find the strength and dedication
to be your servants always.
We pray for your wisdom
to enlighten their hearts,
this day, and as long as you ask them to serve,
Amen.

Lord, we ask the intercession of your saints for the outcome of the upcoming conclave.

St. Ambrose, pray for us.
St. Martin of Tours, pray for us.
St. Augustine of Hippo, pray for us.
St. Patrick, pray for us.
St. Thomas of Canterbury, pray for us.
St. Charles Borromeo, pray for us.

All you holy bishops in heaven, look down upon the men called into the office as cardinals, who will be selecting the next Bishop of Rome, and intercede for them that they may walk in the ways God calls them, faithful to the church, and answer that call as the Lord sees fit.

Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us.

St. Joseph, guardian of the Church, pray for us.

O Jesus, watch over your shepherds, and guide them with your own wisdom.

Amen.

O my Lord,
Peter was your choice,
your rock on which to anchor
the new and infant church,
Peter,
big of heart,
yet flawed
like all men,
eager to work for you,
but who stumbled.
Yet you loved him,
and knew his heart,
and called him to feed your sheep.

Are not all who have stood in his shoes,
guided your church,
spoke your message,
been our papa
been like Peter,
not perfect,
but called by you to lead?

We pray for the next who will answer the call,
we pray for the men who will choose him,
and remembering your promise,
how the gates of hell will never prevail against your church,
we know that the Spirit will be there
to guide, guard and protect.

May the Holy Spirit fill the hearts of your faithful
and enkindle in them the fire of your love,
especially the Cardinals,
and all those who are called to serve.

Amen.
