In one of his latest offerings (addressed to the “Bishops of the Anglican Communion” with copies to the bishops and General Convention deputies on the appropriate email lists), Dr Louie Crew patronizes and disrespects another African Anglican leader, this time the Most Rev’d Dr Peter Akinola, Archbishop and Primate of the Church of Nigeria. Dr Crew accuses Archbishop Akinola of being full of bluff and empty threats in his denunciations of The Episcopal Church in a recent letter to the bishops and Standing Committee of the Church of Nigeria and in the promises he has given Nigerian Anglicans in North America in a letter to them.
Not only that, but Dr Crew analyzes Archbishop Akinola’s denunciations and his promises solely in terms of Nigerian tribal rivalries. Don’t we have a word for judging people and for predicting their actions - in this case Archbishop Akinola and Nigerian Anglicans in America - on the basis of their ethnicity?
At the end of this latest bit of venom, Dr Crew admonishes his readers to bide their time in silence, not responding to ++Akinola (who “won’t be able to deliver what he threatens") and instead to “be about our Father’s business".
Apparently his Father’s business includes this sort of ethnic-slanging rubbish.
Outrageous. Simply outrageous.
Nowhere is American racism so obvious as in the response of the ECUSA's revisionist toward orthodox Africans. This is a very long-standing issue -- it was in full cry at Lambeth '98.
Interesting. I've seen it lately, though I wasn't paying attention to anything outside our province back then...
