Did you miss something? No, but you'll have to admit that these masses with the wonderfull singing were wonderful to behold. So much reverence instead of some of the silly songs that are sung at mass today. I really dislike "I Danced in the Morning" song. I cannot sing along with it as I am so offended by it's triteness.
My wife and I like to look through the song book to find the songs that have no reference to the Lord whatsoever. I can't understand why some of these songs are considered hymns at all.
"I danced on a Friday and the sky turned black;
Its hard to dance with the devil on your back;"
I'll never forget my mother turning to me in disgust and saying "He was NOT DANCING on that cross!!!!"
That would be the odious "The Lord of the Dance," which is a bastardization of a perfectly beautiful (but not very Catholic) Shaker hymn, "Simple Gifts."
I HATE it when they change the words to songs. They've changed the equally beautiful (but not very Catholic) "Amazing Grace." They've changed "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" (they don't even call it the BATTLE hymn anymore). They've changed "Hark The Herald Angels Sing," and a bunch of other Christmas hymns.
They can't even leave their own hippy-dippy songs alone: They've changed "Let There Be Peace On Earth," "Whatsoever You Do," and "Blowin' In The Wind," too.
All in all, the music I hear at Mass on a day-to-day basis is almost unendurably bad.
