No, it's the exact opposite. I fail to see any sense in your assertion that opposites are "dangerously close".

You imply that the decay of the Church caused the decay of the world. That's blasphemy. You're asserting that the condition of the world is commensurate with the condition of the Church, as if the Church and the world are interdependent. They are not. The world becomes more powerful when it rejects the Church. The Church becomes more powerful when it rejects the world. The Church achieved its greatest power on Good Friday while the Roman Empire independently conquered the globe.
