My all-time favorite is "Be Thou My Vision".

My husband's also. We have a framed needlework of the these verses hanging in our bedroom.

Thanks for the recommendation of Rebecca St. James.
Second Chapter of Acts, Hymns I & Hymns II, are all time favorites for us. We put the top down on the little red convertible and turn up the volume!!

I did noticed you did not refute why we sing.

Because you didn't really address the question in that post. Here, you have made some points on the issue, which I can address.

When I sing to Father I spend time with Him.

Great for personal meditation or when used as a prayer. Not as great when in corporate worship and teaching.

. When I sing I "special" I ask the congregation to disregard me I'm just a vessel

Excellent. You put focus on the message, and recognize it is not a performance.

listen to Fathers heart, from the words and feeling of the song.

I'm a little uncomfortable with this terminology, but I'm not sure if it is simply a vocabulary issue.

There are some decent modern praise songs such as "Your Beloved," but indeed, most are bad.

Chris Tomlin has some good stuff.

The point of this article is where the trend is, and the trend is not good.

There is a positive trend in one sense with projects like Indelible Grace fitting old hymns to new music.

However, this is still a very small movement, largely composed of folks who are a certain type of Protestant already liking old hymns.

I have tried to get my college to add just one old hymn set to new music each chapel to no avail.
