He is right that the old hymns were focused on objective truth rahter than personal experience, but his mind represents the other extreme: any personal experience is suspect.

There is an overly Romantic type, and then there is the type for whom Christianity represents a sacred mental system, and this type tends to take up heresy hunting as a hobby to distract from their poverty of spiritual EXPERIENCE.

Apophatic theology is "gnosticism"? "Something about that name" is gnosticism?

"Heresy Hunters". Boy, I like that. I sure have found a lot of heresy hunters on Free Republic lately.

And besides, the Gaithers also wrote "Majesty. Worship His Majesty". That song is worthy of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven or David. Besides, which one of those wrote music that was considered so seductive, women shouldn't be allowed to listen to it?
