My mom's maiden name was Anselmo. I wonder if it was derived from this saint. Was St. Anselm Italian?

St. Anselm of Canterbury was English, but "Anselm, Anselmus, Anselmo," was a common name in the Middle Ages across Western Europe and the British Isles.
