An interview with Monsignor Bernard Fellay

So the Saint Pius X Fraternity announced the audience given on 29 August by Benedict XVI to the Superior Monsignor Fellay. 30Days had a telephone conversation with the successor of Monsignor Marcel Lefebvre in the headquarters of the Fraternity, in Menzingen, Switzerland. ...

What reasons pushed you to ask for an audience?
    FELLAY: First of all love for the Church. And then the fact that there is a new Pontiff, and it was natural for us to ask for an audience to reverence and pay homage to the new Successor of Peter, our Pope. That was the first reason. Then in the wake of the dialogue over these last five years we also wanted to try to grasp what might be expected for the future. And to present to the Pope what we see as the status quaestionis... The problem set by the Fraternity will naturally resolve itself in rapprochement of the current Church with its past. «I have the conviction», Pope Pius XII said, «that the Church of Peter must claim its past; otherwise it will dig its own grave» [cf Georges Rooche and Philippe Saint Germain: Pio XII devant l’histoire, Paris 1972, pp. 52-53, ed.]

There are many points that speak in favor of the current Pope. He knows our case very well and right from the beginning, perhaps better than anyone else. He also knows very well the Roman Curia, and that is very important for the pontificate. The sacredness of the liturgy is close to his heart and he’s aware of the importance of doctrine; that, too, plays in his favor.

I am glad to see that Bishop Fellay is taking a more positive stance towards Rome, which bodes well for a swift and just settlement both of the matter of the schism and also of the "rightful aspirations" of "all those Catholic faithful who feel attached to some previous liturgical and disciplinary forms of the Latin tradition" (John Paul II, Motu Proprio Ecclesia Dei Adflicta).

O God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, our only Savior the Prince of Peace: Give us grace seriously to lay to heart the great dangers we are in by our unhappy divisions; take away all hatred and prejudice, and whatever else may hinder us from godly union and concord; that, as there is but one Body and Spirit, one hope of our calling, one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism, one God and Father of us all, so we may be all of one heart and of one soul, united in one holy bond of truth and peace, of faith and charity, and may with one mind and mouth glorify thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. And this at present makes normal life impossible for those Catholics who are tied to the Tradition.

* It hasn't prevented this tied-to-Tradition Catholic from living a normal Christian life. Fellay just rejects the Doctrine the Magisterium decides what is and isn't Tradition and he has cut himself off from the Church by his own wilfull actions.

Fellay refers to the "so-called excomunication." That cannot be understood in any other way than he still thinks/acts like the protestant he is. He rejects the Divinely-Deputed Authority. He makes his personal opinions/ideas the ultimate authority.

Speaking just for myself, the less we hear from/about the schismatics the better off we are. This schism ain't ending and this one-sided "explanation" about the meeting isn't worthy of anyone's trust it is accurate or truthful because it comes from an disobedient, wilfull, excomunicated man, who, ceaselessly, continues his campaign of public opposition to the Church established by Jesus. The interview is just an opportunity for Fellay to, once again, rehash his long-discredited and opposed-to-Tradition ideas.
