Here, too - and decorations were up by the first weekend in November. It's horrible. We don't listen to the radio this time of year, but it's hard to avoid the music when shopping.
Yes, of course! (And we were fortunate this year, weren't we?). Your approach sounds more like the one I am accustomed to. Perhaps this would be considered a "New England" Christmas?
I spent Thanksgiving Day decorating the house for Christmas. It takes so long to set things up, I want to enjoy them. Though with a grown daughter, I've cut back on so much of the commercialism. The Nativity sets are my precious jewels. And so are the Santas ;-D
Mid Atlantic, in this case. :-)

Alas, I am a creature of my times. It's an artificial tree. But, hey, BOTH of us have artifical nativity scenes, so I guess it's okay! ;-D
Besides, I have a good "excuse," ratified by my wife, even, to bridge the seasons from Advent to Candlemas with a tree, and, now that I've got it, I ain't giving it up!
Thanks, that was helpful. I was wondering if there was an official position on such matters. You answered my question.
A couple of years ago, I sat down one afternoon with the kids and some Sculpey and made the Jesse ornaments. They are very primitive. The problem is, I tried to bake fishing line into them to serve as loops, but many came loose and caused the ornament to break! My Jesse tree is a little ragged, but I highly recommend it as an activity and as a remembrance of Jesus' "family tree".
Last year, Family Fun magazine (a subsidiary of Disney) of all things, had a lovely nativity made out of pipe cleaners, cotton and yarn. We made dozens and this year the CCD teachers will get one as well. It is a wonderful activity.

Thanks for those suggestions!
** it would be just as confusing to sing Christmas songs and display Christmas decorations during Advent as it would to sing Easter resurrection songs and display Easter decorations during Lent. **
You hit the nail on the head here. Timing and purpose work together to bring us closer to God.
Sorry, I didi not mean to pick on you -- I should have used the "All" Sounds like your activities brought you and your children closer to the real reason for the Season -- Jesus Christ.
No problem, I knew you were directing it to "all" but you had directed me to a great resource on Jesse trees, as I recall, so I wanted to add to your post.
:-) Merry Christmas might be premature, what should I say, Have an Anticipation-Filled Advent!? (-:
