I agree with you; however, it seems like the Church's authentic teaching (as opposed to the socialist pablum that is so stylish among the social-justice crowd in the Church) actually goes right with the fundamentals of basic conservative thought. We have seen (with prescription drugs, etc.) that the Republican party doesn't always go along with basic conservatism, now does it?

I'd agree with what you're saying. Generally speaking, the Church's social teaching in practice goes more along the lines of conservatism. And yes, the GOP no longer represents many conservative viewpoints.
