27 January 2006, 14:17 Nizhniy Novgorod muftis condemn the anti-Israeli call of Iranian president

Nizhniy Novgorod, January 27, Interfax - The Nizhniy Novgorod Moslem Board has condemned Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his call to wipe out Israel off the world map.

The Nizhniy Novgorod muftis, in their statement issued on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, express regret with the fact that ‘humanity has failed to learn the lessons of the past, and the problem of ethno-national conflicts has remained burning after decades have elapsed’.

‘Again and again synagogues are attacked and people of different colour or different faith are abused, and for quite some time now the proponents of nationalistic ideas have denied the fact of Holocaust, while quite recently the president of a UN member state came out with a hostile call to a second Holocaust, proposing to wipe out the state of Israel from the map’, the muftiate statement reads.

This, the authors of the document believe, also suggests that ‘our civilization is sick, and we have yet to do much to deter the present generation from such terrifying crimes’.

‘We should do all that is possible to overcome not only anti-semitism, but also any manifestation of intolerance, extremism and xenophobia’, emphasizes the statement published on the web-site of the Moslem Board on Friday.

Good action items! There is a lot of work that needs to be done on this issue and it isn't going to make much headway without Moslem leadership. Good Post. BTTT.

It's really great to see a Moslem group coming out strong against this type of hatred.

It is great to see this thread.

It is, however, most unfortunate to see quite a few threads on FR labelling 'all' that is connected to Muslims or Islam as being atrocious.

As you can see, there have been only 3 posts including mine to this thread. If this thread were remotely about Islam or muslims, in general, being the 'culprit', you would be getting full audience! How is that for sensationalism and being righteous.

P.S.

I agree with humint that it isn't going to make much headway w/out respected Muslim authority figures in Muslim countries.
