Catholic Devotion: Novena for God's Mercy, Day 9
Catholic Meditations and Prayers ^ | 5/27/06 | Knitting a Conundrum

Day 9

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven; hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Scripture Reading:

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good tidings to the afflicted; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; : to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.

Divine Mercy, gushing forth from the bosom of the Father, I trust in Thee! Divine Mercy, sweet relief for anguished souls, I trust in Thee! Divine Mercy, astonishment for Angels, incomprehensible to saints, I trust in thee!

Oh Father of mercy, Hear our voice, and let our cry come to thee, So many people stand in need of your mercy, so much hurt and anger and sorrow, so much grief and misery. You are the source of all mercy, all healing, all light.. Have mercy on them and us and on the whole world!.

O my God! I believe, I adore, I trust and I love you.

I beg pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not trust and do not love you.

Amen.

My Jesus, I trust in Thee

My Jesus, I trust in thee,
even as the darkness gathers.
My Jesus, I trust in thee,
even as the storm clouds deepen.
My Jesus, I trust in thee,
even when the lightning threatens.

My Jesus, help me trust in thee,
even though my heart quakes.
My Jesus, help me trust in thee
even though you may seem far way.
My Jesus, help me trust in thee,
even though evil seems near.

My Jesus, may I trust in thee,
even when sorrow breaks my heart.
My Jesus, may I trust in thee,
even in the darkness of my grief.
My Jesus, may I trust in thee,
even when I don't understand why.

(Then Jesus quotes that reading from Isaiah in Luke Chapter 4)

He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and went according to his custom into the synagogue on the sabbath day. He stood up to read

and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free,

and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord."

Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him.

He said to them, "Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing."

Abounding love,
Ocean of mercy,
Heart of light,
who waits for us
to hear his soft, quiet voice
to notice his hand,
scarred by love
outstretched to save us
from the dark waters
that would smother us forever,
O Jesus,
I trust in thee,
teach me to trust thee more.

Abounding love,
Heart large enough to hold the entire world,
Patiently calling our names,
Patiently waiting to heal us,
Longing to bring us home,
who bears the marks of his love
even to this day,
O Jesus,
I trust in thee,
teach me to trust thee more.

Abounding love
reaching out no matter how often rejected,
reaching out with a healer's touch,
a lover's touch,
a saving grasp,
in spite of rejection,
to save those who will listen,
to save those who will notice,
to rescue the perishing,
to bring life, and that abundantly,
Ocean of mercy,
Heart of love,
O Jesus, I trust in thee,
teach me to trust thee more.

Amen

O Lord,
You whose sacred heart is big enough
to contain the whole world,
Be this day
with those who are shattered,
shattered by the sound of explosions
taking away their peace,
their security,
their loved ones,
whose nights are shattered
by the memories
of fire
and noise and chaos
haunting them.

You who are our mercy,
look upon us, Lord,
and salve all the hurts
that need healing,
those whose lives are shattered by unrepentant sin,
those whose lives are shattered
by the sins of others,
those whose lives are shattered
by events beyond their control.

O Lord,
You know the truth of
all the griefs that need mourning,
all the anger that needs calming,
all the violence that needs your peace.

Lord,
As your touch in life
healed the blind,
may your touch open our eyes
to the message you give us,
to the truth of your love.

Have mercy on us,
and may each of us
be vehicles of your mercy,
this day and always,
Amen.

Meditation on the Divine Mercy

"I offer you my mercy,"
says our loving Lord.
"Look at my hands,
my feet,
my side,
my heart.
I was willing to give so much,
you my precious ones,
important,
beloved.

"As callous as you are,
or lost and confused,
as sad and imperfect as you are,
or burdened with others needs,
as angry as you are,
or injured
stained within,
or without,
I call you.
Ask,
let me pour my love on you,
my heart's blood.

"Pray for my mercy,
mercy upon the whole world,
a world I would hide within my own heart,
heal it,
bring it home
if you would but ask."

Lord, help us to ask
for your love and mercy,
poured out on us,
poured out on others,
a living chain awash in your divine mercy,
You our heart,
our center,
our being.

Divine Mercy,
enclosed in the Heart of Jesus for us,
and especially for sinners,
I trust in thee.
Have mercy on us, and on the whole world.
