Christ Church Episcopal in Plano, one of the largest Episcopal congregations in the United States, has announced that it will leave the denomination over what it sees as the Episcopal Church's leftward drift. Church leaders publicly announced the plan Monday, five days after the end of the denomination's national convention in Columbus, Ohio. At that convention, the national church elected a new presiding bishop, a woman who supported the 2003 confirmation of a gay bishop in New Hampshire. She also supported the creation of locally authorized blessings for gay unions.

From the Christ Church Web site:
About Our Clergy
The Episcopal priesthood is open to men and women, married or single,

Since they cite the ECUSA's "departure from biblical truth" as their reason to disassociate, one might wonder if the above will change.

This really sounds familiar:

"The Christ Church congregation can no longer abide with the decisions made by the denomination, Father Roseberry said Monday.

"We've come to a fork in the road," he said. "And as Yogi Berra said, when you come to a fork in the road, you take it."

My Church left the UCC for the same reason.
Will the last one to leave turn out the lights.

Yep, I live in Coppell and I had a feeling this was going to happen. I know to many of the large Episcopal churches around here are very Conservative or just believe the truth that Homosexuality is a sin. It is sad but it is wise of this congregation to seperate themself from their denomination.

It is encouraging to see churches leave when a denomination no longer puts truth first. In another generation the Episcopal churches will be like the Roman Catholic churches in Europe, museums.

Will the hierarchy take the building, or does it belong to the congregation? I know denominations differ on that.

I don't know. I suspect the building will remain with the congregation. It is a very large, very nice facility. So, whomever owns the building will have to maintain it...Big bucks, and not easily sold.
