Do you have a scientific reference for that? I know The Pill does a great many bad things to women, but I have never heard of this before.

Smoking is a voice-killer. Slugging Southern Comfort straight from the bottle a la Janis Joplin doesn't help either.

I'm not close enough to very many people to know if they're on or off the pill, but I can think of two sopranos - one a true coloratura and one more of a spinto - who are on it. That and my own experience leads me to doubt this unless I see the stats.

I just googled for the information, and it looks like the report I read was either outdated at the time or has been overtaken by new research. A recent study showed no difference.

There's a drug called "Danazol," used in some treatments of endometriosis and other conditions, that does permanently deepen the voice.

Note birth control pills as affecting the larynx. I found a couple of reports that contradicted this in the journal, Laryngoscope.
