I know comedians love to rag on Catholic nuns and their propensity for corporal punishment but that wasn't my experience. The only time I ever personally got spanked was in 6th grade in secular school (we had moved and the Catholic school was too full, no room for new students).
I do remember seeing a kid get whacked on the palm with a ruler. Once. And except for that one year, I went to Catholic schools through high school.
Yeah, mostly the nuns could give you a look. Sometimes hard, but the disappointed-I-know-you-are-better-than-that look also worked pretty well.
Mostly, I remember liking most of the nuns. When somebody 'lays down their life' for you before you even know them, even a dopey kid can sense that and respond appropriately.
He needs to be straightened out by Fr. Corapi.
