Pray for the Pope

Prayers from the Raccolta, 1957 edition, reprinted by Loreto Publications, 2004

385

Most holy Virgin and Mother, whose soul was pierced by a sword of sorrow in the Passion of thy divine Son, and who in His glorious Resurrection was filled with never-ending joy at His triumph; obtain for us who call upon thee, so to be partakers in the adversities of Holy Church and the sorrows of the Sovereign Pontiff, as to be found worthy to rejoice with them in the consolations for which we pray, in the charity and peace of the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

511

[A Prayer to Pope St. Gregory VII, Confessor]

O invincible defender of Holy Church's freedom, Saint Gregory of great renown, by that firmness thou didst show in maintaining the Church's rights against all her enemies, stretch forth from heaven thy mighty arm, we beseech thee, to comfort her and defend her in the fearful battle she must ever wage with the powers of darkness. Do thou, in an especial manner, give strength in this dread conflict to the venerable Pontiff who has fallen heir not only to thy throne, but likewise to the fearlessness of thy mighty heart; obtain for him the joy of beholding his holy endeavours crowned by the triumph of the Church and the return of the lost sheep into the right path. Grant, finally, that all may understand how vain it is to strive against that faith which has always conquered and is destined always to conquer; "this is the victory which overcometh the world, our faith." This is the prayer that we raise to thee with one accord; and we are confident, that, after thou hast heard our prayers on earth, thou wilt one day call us to stand with thee in heaven, before the eternal High Priest, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit liveth and reigneth world without end. Amen.

652

V. Let us pray for our Pontiff, [Benedict XVI].
R. The Lord preserve him, and give him life, and make him to be blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies. (Roman Breviary)
Our Father, Hail Mary

654

O God, the Shepherd and Ruler of all Thy faithful people, mercifully look upon Thy servant [Benedict XVI], whom Thou hast chosen as the chief Shepherd to preside over Thy Church; grant him, we beseech Thee, so to edify, both by word and example, those over whom he hath charge, that he may attain unto everlasting life, together with the flock committed unto him. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Thanks to you all for these outstanding prayers. I'll print them out for regular use with my family!

Pyro, if you ask Religion Moderator, he/she will add "Devotion" to the thread title, and proceed to trounce anyone who tries to use the thread to debate denominational differences, and he will zat things like Post 79, from somebody who doesn't recognize that the MSM deliberately used Pope Benedict's extremely measured comments to provoke violence.

It's a stupid wolf who thinks someone is throwing stones at it when they aren't.

Really, dajjal, you can't hold the Pope responsible for the actions of irrational barbarians. Each of them has a free will. The Pope expressed his shock and sorrow of the reaction to his words. He did not set out to inflame the Muslim masses (although, I believe the MSM did so deliberately). He gave an academic lecture about faith and reason and invited the Muslims to an honest dialogue, sans violence. They reacted to a part of his lecture that was taken out of context.

I, however, will join your suggestion to pray for Christians around the world (who, by the way, have been being killed by Muslims since long before the Pope's recent lecture).

V. Oremus pro Pontifice nostro Benedictus.
R. Dominus conservet eum, et vivificet eum, et beatum faciat eum in terra, et non tradat eum in animam inimicorum eius. [Ps 40:3]

Pater Noster, Ave Maria.

Deus, omnium fidelium pastor et rector, famulum tuum Benedictus, quem pastorem Ecclesiae tuae praeesse voluisti, propitius respice: da ei, quaesumus, verbo et exemplo, quibus praeest, proficere: ut ad vitam, una cum grege sibi credito, perveniat sempiternam. Per Christum, Dominum nostrum. Amen.

He gave an academic lecture about faith and reason and invited the Muslims to an honest dialogue, sans violence.

"Honest dialogue, sans violence" is not in the mohammedan playbook; their stock in trade is deceit and chaos. If there was ever any legitimate doubt, His Holiness' "invitation to dialogue" and the mohammedans' screeching response has ended such. Let us pray, among other things, that this episode wakes up the West before it's too late.

Pyro7480,

Sorry. I made replies #93 and #95 off of my "My Comments" page, and just now read Tax-chick's post #81. I actually agree with her point. This isn't the right place for my opinions on how things have been handled.

Perhaps if the mods could just erase my sentence about the "wolves" the rest of my Post #79 would be okay. But I'll understand if they just delete all of 79, 93 and 95.

Might I suggest that if my interlocutors wish to continue the discussion we do so at
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1702516/posts
where I already have a few posts on the subject.

And, I guess, please leave this post intact, to steer the others to that thread. Thanks!

And even if my posts 79, 93 & 95 aren't deleted, please, everyone, reply to me on a different thread.

Praying for the safety of Pope Benedict, and also for the safety of all followers of Christ threatened by Islamic jihadist violence.

I continue to pray. Thank you so much for posting this thread. My heart and prayers are with the Pope and all in the Christian church. This is a scary time, but also a time of clarity and strengthening. Thank you Lord. Please continue to guide and protect our Pope and all who surround him and spread the word of our Lord Jesus Christ.
