Wow - the person who wrote this seems to really have an axe to grind.

defected to Rome
seduced by Rome
Hahn's obsession is to convert Christians to Catholicism
conversion to Romanism
ritual cannibalism
Hahn, who by all accounts was an excellent student, could not defend the major principles of the Protestant Reformation.
Mary clinched the argument
absorbed by the Roman Catholic Church
unable to persuade them of the errors of Roman Catholicism
American "Protestantism" is mostly Roman Catholic already
preaching of the Gospel [...] is rarely heard in "Protestant" pulpits.
Only the grace of God can save us
I can't escape the feeling that the author is a bit nervous.

Apparently my thought processes and motivations are the subject matter of this thread....

Well, I can't say about the other posters, but I was not referring to you in my post. Interesting that you thought I was. I don't know you from Adam (okay, well, I guess you're probably younger than Adam AND you have a belly-button)and I didn't know whether you posted the article because you agreed with it or not. For example you could have thought of it as I do, as an egregiously hate-filled (and therefore at once risible and lamentable) piece of polemic. I think if you will read my post, you will see there is nothing in it which must refer to you.

And that would be because I was talking about the person who wrote what you posted, not about the person who posted it. Or to be precise, I was talking about what happens to me and what I think when I read such trash.

But if you agree with the article, then, unintentionally ,maybe I was talking about you. I dunno. Clearly the article indulges in so many lies and such gratuitous attacks on the Hahn's character that it can't be taken seriously -- or, at any rate, I can't take it seriously as a piece of argumentation.

Sorry for any part I had in the confusion.

Here are seven links to stories about or by Scott Hahn. In only one (this one) is Dr. Hahn portrayed as a lost soul. To the contrary, he is lifted up, even by websites from the Vatican.

I would encourage all of you to read the link about Scott Hahn's conversion story. Then you can judge with ALL the facts, rather than just half the facts as this story puts forth.

I like the one about "demonic influence."

Well, I do my humble best -- more humble than best I daresay.

What sorts of people write autobiographies when they are healthy and well at 35

Well, St. Augustine of Hippo, for one. And why not at 35? The Constitution allows a man of 35 to assume office at that age, and I think Jefferson was about that age when he wrote the Declaration of Independence. Only the modern age thinks of a man of 35 to be young.

I found them after I was already in OCIA but they made things much clearer. I do love reading his stuff.

I do and I bet you do too if you think about it. I think it's bait from the anti-Catholics fishing for a fight. I usually just ignore them but I have to admit, I sometimes take the bait.

"I don't understand the purpose of this post."

It's only about thirteen years too late...good grief I read that book in highschool.

With nutcases at New Oxord Review lashing out at Scott Hahn (for ridiculous reasons) and now this guy, makes me think that Satan is trying to stop Scott Hahn. Maybe because he is successful at leading others to Christ.

Why were these men seduced by Rome?

How ecumenically phrased! Perhaps Mr. Hahn was convinced of the teachings of the Church founded by Christ on the rock of Peter and the Apostles. Even if one doesn't agree with Mr. Hahn's conclusions, perhaps one can consider that he obviously was intellectually convinced and lays the basis for such conviction all out in his book. It is not a matter of "seduction" (by the whore of Babylon, presumably).

Messages from God and Mary

I got nauseous at this heading and had to stop reading. I thought I was going to make it all the way through.

Interesting piece of propaganda, but it sheds more heat than light in my opinion. I'm not going to waste anyone's time debating the issues in this essay point by point; anyone who truly believes in John Calvin's monster god is beyond the reach of any arguments I could make. I leave them to the Divine Mercy on this All Soul's Day..

As for Mr. Hahn himself: i'm sure he has feet of clay just like we all do. Whatever his personal faults and weaknesses may be, he has done one thing well: he pointed me towards the Roman Catholic Church, and I have enjoyed the benefit of that direction more than anything else I have ever experienced.

I remember, not long after I became Catholic, there were a few stalwart Methodist women who came to an enchilada supper we were having. One of them stopped me and asked why she hadn't seen me at church for so long, I told her I had become a Catholic. I expected a lecture or at the least a disapproving scowl but she just said how glad she was that I had found a home for my faith. I truly think she meant it.

Growing up Methodist we had so many things that were Catholic but I always felt that something was missing. It was in the Methodist Church that I found my faith and committed myself to God, married and baptized my children, it was my home until I found a beautiful mansion.

The writer describes 35 as when you're life has "barely begun". So, Ste Terese, having died before she got out of her 20's was an egomaniac whose life was over before it had barely begun. Very paradoxical, these Carmelites. But more formally, if a man's life expectancy is less than 80 years, at 35 you're 5 years short of more than half-way through.

My point, and I do have one, is that this isn't an article, it's a rant. I generally like rants, but, like 'em or not, I don't argue with them. A nice soothing "There, there," and an offer of chamomile tea is more useful, I suppose.

John W. Robbins writes as though he is insecure about his own faith. Why else be so nasty?

"This is actually really funny ... in a sick sort of way."

I liked this part:

"While in Milwaukee he learned that his seminary classmate, Gerald Matatics, was going to be absorbed into the Roman Catholic church two weeks later at Easter, 1986. Hahn, who had talked Matatics into Roman Catholicism, could not stand to have him go first, yet Hahn had promised his wife that he would not become a Roman Catholic until 1990. He asked her to pray about releasing him from his promise, and she did so. Hahn and Matatics were both absorbed by the Roman Catholic Church in 1986."

THE BORG!!!!

Generally there are three sorts: egotists, egomaniacs, and megalomaniacs.

Which would this author consider Anne Frank?
