News out of Atlantic County this morning.

Prosecutors said an hours old infant was discovered abandoned in a dumpster at an Atlantic County apartment complex Wednesday evening.

Authorities said a resident at the Sandpiper Apartment Complex on the 5300 block of Harding Highway in Hamilton Township found the 6 pound, 4 ounce baby boy while throwing out his trash around 5 p.m.

The man told police he heard a whimper coming from inside a black trash bag in the dumpster. Bystanders nearby helped the man remove the bag and the baby was moved to a car to keep warm while authorities were called.
