its officially condemned in the Orthodox churches also (at least its condemned if contrued as a substitution for individual confession).

Yes, the OCA uses vespers for confession because it is easier to accommodate the number of people. of course, the OCA priests will hear a confession also prior to the Divine Liturgy, but in the Serbian churches and in the Tokyo Cathedral (which is Russian in tradition and autonomous but not autocephalous) the confession is heard prior to the Divine Liturgy (during Hours). I prefer that because having a confession the night before opens only so many more opportunities for sin to come in, no matter how much we may not wish it.

Our ROCOR parish seems to go with either the night before or immeadiatly before Eucharist.

(The OCA parish I've been to doesn't seem to care whether you've been to confession yet this year let alone week).

Normally I go right before liturgy because the parish is more than an hour away and I rarely make it for vespers...

"In some churches it is used as a General Confession, recited aloud, which is wrong."

I have never seen such a thing, to the best of my knowledge.

Me neither. I only read about it. See kawaii's #16.

I've never seen general confession within the liturgy either (i wouldn't be surprised if it'd been done somewhere but i've never heard of it before...)
