Dr.E, pointed out in an earlier post about the painting commemorating the slaughter of Christians that still hangs at the Vatican. I see that the Vatican is declaring other Christian denominations "defective". Why do you think the RCC would not do what they've done in the past if they had the power to do so. The teachings of our Lord and Saviour Jesus the Christ didn't stop them in the past.
Maybe we should learn from the Jews and say "Never Again". It does strike me that when the terrible atrocities are mentioned a defense of them is issued along the lines of "well you did it to". I for one am ashamed of the atrocities that Protestants committed and don't want to ever see it occur again.
Amen.
It was John Calvin who best articulated the Biblical understanding of separation of church and state which the founders of our country later adopted in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Calvin knew the dangers of the state imposing itself on its citizenry as long practiced by Rome. From Theopedia...
"John Calvin believed that the church should not be subject to the state, or vice versa. While both church and state are subject to God's law, they both have their own God-ordained spheres of influence. For example, the church does not have the authority to impose penalties for civil offenses, although it can call on the civil authorities to punish them. Conversely, the state is not to intrude on the operations of the church. However, it has a duty to protect the church and its ability to function as the church..."
By the fruits, of course!
Not one single time have I been struck by lightening or had the Pop-Up roof fall on my head after thanking Our Lord for the little things. It’s tradition.
Just like starting any road trip with a prayer that we will all be held safe in His Arms while we are away. My parents did that (my dad was a salesman and we traveled a lot). It’s tradition.
Saying a prayer over the Thanksgiving Turkey, for the food and that it will turn out okay. Thanking Him at the end that the oven worked right. I remember my mom doing that. It’s tradition.
Saying, “Eternal Rest granted onto them Oh Lord and may perpetual light shine upon them.” When passing a cemetary or funeral procession. Also tradition.
It’s tradition to Thank God in our house for the little blessings. Like the rain that came today that has kept me from spreading mulch. There’s a reason for it, I don’t know why, but He knows.
It’s the intent, not just that it’s been passed down from generation to generation. The proof is in the pudding. I get more blessings every single day!
>>Why do you think the RCC would not do what they’ve done in the past if they had the power to do so. <<
Nope, sorry I don’t.
And if you do, perhaps Catholic paranoia can’t be ruled out.
If person today was held accountable for the sins of their forefathers, we’d all be in trouble.
Better get that check out to the NAACP for your part of the reparations for slavery in America. You evil, evil son of a slave master.
What? Your forefathers didn’t own slaves? No matter! You’re an American and if we don’t watch out, blacks will be enslaved again. Cause ya know, we still do show “Gone with the Wind.” and are pretty proud of it.
silly....
The pope didn't write your article, you did. The actual document posted on FR has less than a dozen posts. Yours has, well, a flamewar.
I am not going to get sucked into polemics with you about how evil my faith is. Your false dichotomy is an excellent example of the behavior I have in mind.
Discernment is a tough issue. Satan does not play fair. He can easily get something started that ultimately leads Christians away from the truth. An example would be the apparitions of Mary that appear all over the place. You may want to believe they are Mary. It may seem to draw you into a closer more personal relationship with the LORD. However, Scripture does not give us examples of dead humans being sent as messengers. Scripture shows that God uses Angels. IOW, fruits alone tells you nothing. You need something from GOD that is infallible to measure everything against. The only thing I know that fits that description is his Holy Word.
It wasn’t P-Marlowe that wrote it, it was xzins.
But this is BRILLANT!
To: PetroniusMaximus
Nor would he wish to be as church is defined in the document.
If he wished to be Catholic, Im sure he would be, but hes not. The document states that this does not mean he doesnt know truth, Jesus or is necessarily deprived of salvation through Jesus Christ.
The Pope is saying Catholic doctrine is that it is the true church established and constituted by Jesus. I believe your friend would disagree and believe the corollary for his church.
Catholics and Protestants believe differently about what Jesus intended and established for His Church.
thanks for your reply..

The analogy fails because there is no one proclaiming that this was proper and the correct order of things. The same can not be said of the RCC.
Yup, disernment is a tough issue. I’m doing perfectly well in mine.
As for apparitions of Mary, psh, we are not required as Catholics to believe any of them. Ask me about Medjugore and I’ll give you an earful!!
And didn’t Elijah and Moses appear with Jesus? I thought they were dead. There was surely a message being sent from their appearance.
And you disagree with Catholics on what constitutes Christ's church. This is not news.
The choices I have are:
A) You haven't read the document and you don't know who is responsible for its content, and you don't know basic Catholic doctrine, and you don't the meaning of diatribe, advocate, mouthpiece, etc...
or
B) You created the most inflammatory Protestant/Catholic thread you could possibly devise. (Apparently your first attempt didn't provoke sufficient anger.)
Regarding the choice: I don't believe you're incompetent or ignorant.
This thread serves no purpose but to inflame. It's a classic example of flame bait. And it's been effective.
The only honorable thing is to ask that the thread be pulled.
Not according to the NAACP. There are boogie men around every corner.
And to some Non-Catholics, there are boogie men in the Vatican too.
The only way it could be a "dichotomy" is if the RCC was Christ. Is it?
You can always ask.
Is yours a formal request, or are you just posturing?
The only way it is NOT a dichotomy is if I must select between the two, which is not the case.
...as to why Ratzinger should not be held accountable...
Accountable to whom? To you?
How has your search for the proof been proceeding?
It was a statement to the author in hopes he will agree and do so.
I'm also still waiting for you to provide some kind of explanation for this calumny.
