Under the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2003, it is illegal to discriminate against people as a result of their sexual orientation, but the law does contain an exemption for organised religion. I don't see how the Bishop lost if there is a religious exemption.
There is a bill going thru congress right now that will enact job discrimination protection for sexual orientation. And it doesn't have a religious exemption.
