Actually, quite a few have “signed on “ to this prayer project. Thanks.

I didn’t know the link between Lewis and Tolkien. Thanks for telling it again. It’s enough to get us all on our knees praying for all the unsaved who come to our attention.

I must strongly but respectively disagree, angkor.

It's OK. You are only disagreeing with my own ambiguous and conflicting opinions of Hitchens. Sometimes he's great, and other times he's ..... a real pill.

There’s a YouTube clip of Chris and Peter debating the very issue of atheism vs. theism.

It comes down to the issue of morals, which Peter (rightly) attributes to divinity, and Chris (weakly) says are “evolutionary” (Dawkins-inspired?)

Of course Chris is wrong (too bad he can’t see it) because there’s no yardstick or compass for anything called “evolution” or “progress” in the athiest world.

Actually there are several of their debates out there:

How could anyone who had experienced the Grace of God, not wish and pray for others, all others, to experience and acknowledge it?

Are Hitchens’ sins worse than yours or mine, and if they are, are they beyond the reach of Redemption?

My readinsg of the New Testament says that I should not waste time on his kind who are not ignorant yet refuse the message. It is seed that fell on bad soil.

You misunderstood me - I will not pray to convert him - prayers offered for the peace and well being of all is commendable. But while I pray no harm is done to him as I pray no harm falls on anyone I will resist his message of hate as much as I can. Yes, Marxist inspired atheism is hatred (rationalist inspired atheism is a different category which does not deserve scorn but dialogue).

There is no question that good seed will fall on bad soil, but where does the NT tell us that we are not to “waste time” on “his kind”, or that we are to make that judgement?

Since you asked:

"Let those who don't have God's approval go without it, and let filthy people continue to be filthy. Let those who have God's approval continue to have it, and let holy people continue to be holy." - Revelation 22:11

Where, "where does the NT tell us that we are not to “waste time” on “his kind”?..." On Jesus's walk through Samaria and that woman He 'had' to meet at the well, Jacob's Well --not Israel's Well, Jacob's Well.

I wrote a novella about a guy like Christopher Hitchens, titled Turnabout. It's about an outspoken atheist who meets 'The Listener' and is converted to tell the World of Him. ... Having prayed for him, we shall see what thing God will do.

I will pray for him, we may not be able to convince him. He needs to be open minded to God.

We don't need to convince him, my sister! The Holy Spirit just has to convict him.

Keep the faith, and thank you for all your prayers.

What do you say the context is?

"First of all, I encourage you to make petitions, prayers, intercessions, and prayers of thanks for all people, for rulers, and for everyone who has authority over us. Pray for these people so that we can have a quiet and peaceful life always lived in a godly and reverent way. This is good and pleases God our Savior. He wants all people to be saved and to learn the truth." - 1 Timothy 2:1-4

That’s true. Let’s not forget how much better the world would be if Mohammed had turned to Christ and abandoned his demon. It might have happened if he had heard the true Gospel (with the support of genuine Christian prayer) rather than the derivative gnostic crap that found its way into the Koran.

Could you ping the prayer list, heavy-duty prayers are going up for Chris Hitchens. The Cure of Ars called unrepentant ones like these “a big fish.”

How does this verse apply to such prayer?

For that matter, what would reading this verse this way do to evangelism--or loving your enemies, blessing those who curse you, doing good to those who hate you, and praying for those who persecute you?

Anyway, I don't offer my prayers to dogs and swine but to One who knows better than to trample on them . ;)

"How does this verse apply to such prayer?"

I don't think it applies to prayer at all. I think it refers to witnessing to those who hate the Gospel and Jesus. My response was to someone asking for a NT verse which cautioned against "wasting my time" with haters of the Gospel. And I also agree that this verse seems to contradict other verses. Like predestination vs. free will. I credit this to my puny human intellect being unable at this time to fully comprehend the eternal word of God.

Joe, if certain people I know didn’t pray for me, I’d surely be in Hell now. I’m just returning the favor...at one time I was as ignorant as Chris Hitchens, but now I thank God for the gift of salvation. It is my prayer that one day, he will too.

I agree with you 100% on prayer, for any and everyone. See my response in the previous post.
