Who will pray for Christopher Hitchens?

Do we have any prayer volunteers for Christopher Hitchens? He’s the self -proclaimed “atheist/anti-theist,” and stunningly clever wordsmith. He leapfrogged puzzled agnosticism to a pledged rebellion against God.

He’ll be a tough turn-around, so thick is his iron-clad ignorance of the divine.

In a recent Newsweek he cynically dissects Mother Teresa’s dark theological struggles, a postscript to his derisive 1995 book, “The Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice.” A week ago he was a featured speaker for an Atheist Alliance conference in Washington DC.

Hitchens’ latest book, “God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything,” maligns the devoted, be their god Creator or counterfeit. “Holy books,” including the Bible, are “mythological morality tales” and he suggests any religious training is child-abuse.

“The person who is certain, and who claims divine warrant for his certainty, belongs now to the infancy of our species,” Hitchens says, putting Christians such as Martin Luther King, William Wilberforce and 1997 Nobel Prize winner (Physics) William D. Phillips, on par with prokaryotes, single-celled bacteria.

You, guys can pray for him, but, no offense, I'm not. I see him as a very smart, but deep-down, a self-loathing individual who, barring a visit from Jesus Himself, will never change at this point.

That doesn't mean I don't like him or respect him, but there some people beyond our 'help'.

I believe God has written the outline for our life's script. We fill in the dialogue, we get to pick the scenes and wardrobe, and can even make changes to the action, but the plan is pretty much set. Hitchens is, unfortunately, likely doomed to serve as a foil and adversary to the Judeo/Christian community.

>Who will pray for Christopher Hitchens?
When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." [Luke 23:33-34]
-----------------------------------------------

Come on. Let's be real.
Jesus prayed for His killers.
All Christians can pray

for Hitchens. He's just
a smart guy who doesn't know
all he thinks he knows.

It won’t hurt to pray for him but the simple fact is that if God wants him, God will have him.

With prayer, that can be arranged!

I will pray for him, we may not be able to convince him. He needs to be open minded to God.

Many of the greatest saints started out as the most committed enemies of religion. Where there’s life, there’s hope.

I believe Hell is an equal opportunity solicitor. That won’t stop me praying for those of his ilk however.

“Arranged,” indeed! Good choice of words, I pray so. And keep in mind, Hitchens’ brother, Peter, is a devout Christian who undoubtedly prays for his brother. Shall we join him?!

IF he would do what other atheist have done...gone through The Word of God to disprove it, he'd end up just like those atheist. By studying The Word of God...they became strong Christian Believers. Since, Jesus is The Word of God, that's a visit from Him.

Until, Our Lord leads me to pray for this man, I'll not pray for him. He has led me to pray for folks, I in NO way wanted to. However, I did and continued until I was released by Our Lord.

Who will pray for Christopher Hitchens?

I will.

After all, plenty of people have prayed for me. What's more, Jesus himself suffered and gave his life for me.

People like Hitchens are tough cases. Fundamentally (excuse the term) dishonest when it comes to religion, but because they're so intellectually gifted, they like to believe they're applying the same intellectual precision to religion that they apply to other arenas of thought -- but they aren't. Their biases won't allow them to. For someone like Hitchens it would be a horror beyond belief to suspect for even a fraction of a second that God exists. After all, he might require something of him.

That said, I imagine a lot of people pray for Hitchens, and have for years. With God all things are possible.

Until, Our Lord leads me to pray for this man, I'll not pray for him.

27But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, 28Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

Jesus's words in Luke 6 are good enough for me. I'll pray for him.

But what a weapon in God’s arsenal Hitchens would be once his brain (and mouth) was used for truth. So, pray on, friends.

It’s kind of like, “the bigger they are, the harder they fall”.

So often those who fight the hardest, become the most ardent advocates. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least.
