Maybe what Saint Malachy really meant is that it’s simply the end of the Catholic Church. Perhaps they’ll come to an understanding Calvin was right and become Reformed.

You forgot some of your Bible here, didn’t you?

“And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, 13 and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. “Matthew 16:18

That’s impossible. Peter the Roman is code for Jesus Himself - the last Pope (when He comes to judge the world).

Whether or not St. Malachy’s prophecies indicate that Peter the Roman is the “next” pope AND the “last pope” is debatable. Since the “last pope” is not numbered, it’s been theorized that the popes between “Glory of the Olive” and “Peter the Roman” were simply not prophesied.

At any rate, it’s only pious speculation to try and divine Malachy’s meaning. We know how the story ends.

It might be so, but for the references to the gates of hell and all that nonsense. Sorry, we’ll just have to continue hoisting the banner of Christianity and leading all the Reformed and the others who have stomped off in a snit to the Promised Land.
