We had a notice at Church this weekend that our pastor will be celebrating a Latin Mass on Sunday, November 18. My wife and I are both excited about this, and we plan on attending.
My pastor, who has been offering the 1962 Rite on Sundays for years with an indult announced that a nearby pastor expressed interest in learning the Rite from him in order to offer Monday-Saturday Mass at his parish.
Oh sweet. We have been having Latin Masses now for two months, last 2 (-3) Sundays of the month; another priest is saying it, and our head priest helps. This week our head priest is in Nebraska, learning to lead it. When he comes back, they will be doing it every Sunday. It is quite beautiful; we have missals to follow along and the most heavenly choir singing. One of the older fathers helps; he learned it as a young priest, I imagine.
You will love it.
If you have the chance, you might want to watch
this video.
I just recently watched it again, which is why it came to mind, and I'd recommend it to anyone interested in seeing an excellent depiction of a Missa Cantata.
I'm not suggesting that you should expect a Mass like this one at your church. My guess, if it is the first TLM offered in years at your parish, it will likely be a Low Mass.
Nor, by any means, am I offering support in favor of the SSPX by suggesting this video (it was filmed at St. Nicolas du Chardonnet in Paris - an SSPX church).
But, this is unquestionably the best film depicting the Traditional Mass that I've ever seen. And, that even includes the Sept. 14 Solemn High Mass broadcast by EWTN this fall.
