BTW

[here in case someone else has a similar question]

My new Gateway computer seems to function reasonably well. But at times, I have the same keyboard problem . . . new computer . . . new cordless keyboard . . . transmitter about 3 feet from keyboard not near other devices etc.

Sometimes is the case that keys will not register—clearly a software problem of some sort. Have to wait or type one character say ever 10-20 seconds or some such.

Best Buy’s better tech claimed it is because these processors—well—that XP-P is not designed for the later processors and I really need to go ahead and go with VISTA. That he’s used it for a year and not had any significant problems with it. That 15 year experienced techs coming to him with supposedly intractable problems are usually helped in a few minutes easily in VISTA.

Sigh. Can get it at discount through the college . . . but it still sounds like a huge round of trouble to do so.

Yet, I hate the keying problem even though it’s maybe 5-10% of the time.

Your very wise and valuable, experienced advice would be?

If your acting with hopes of blessings in this life, you’re already on the wrong track.

For you have already received your reward.

Hi, Quix. I've been gone so I'm way behind in these discussions, but we shouldn't end the year on misunderstandings.

the world has been getting better and better by virtue of THE CHURCH Jesus Christ's birth, life, death and resurrection

See the difference? Christ's coming truly did change the world, all according to God's plan and purpose for His creation.

Now evil still exists in this world and it will exist until Christ returns, but Satan has lost the ballgame, as Christ Himself tells us in Matthew 12, Mark 3 and Luke 11. Satan is always less than Christ, and thus, Satan will never triumph.

"But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you." -- Luke 11:20

Partial preterists like myself find in Scripture a true assurance that God is in His heaven and life is unfolding as He wills. Thankfully, that perfect and holy will includes God's grace which He sheds on His family in abundance.

Yes, there are temptations, but none which we cannot withstand. Yes, there are sorrows, but none which will overcome us. Yes, there are duplicitous men who seek to ensnare us, but with the word of God and the Holy Spirit as our helmet and shield, they will always fail.

blood Israel

It often seems as if dispensationalists ignore Hebrews completely. Worldly offerings mean nothing since Calvary. "Bloodlines" are now of no significance to God whose only concern is the blood of Christ shed for all believing Jews and gentiles.

"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus." -- Galatians 3:28

I believe the Gospel succeeds in this life. You somehow think it fails. I just don't get that approach. I have experienced the "change" within my own life, from the temporal to the spiritual, and I believe that God-given change has profited my life in real and tangible ways. I preach the Gospel because God commanded that we do so in order that as many as God hath appointed to eternal life will believe.

And the rest are blinded...

"God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God." -- Psalm 55:19

And thus I believe the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ changes lives, and that change will benefit the believer and their families and the society they live in and the earth in general. We aren't created to withdraw from the battle. We are created to engage the enemy and persevere to the end.

Here's our different perspectives...

"For the LORD shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.

Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people.

My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust.

Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.

For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation." -- Isaiah 51:3-8

Now you believe God is speaking to national Israel here. And I believe God is speaking to you and me and all believers. And why do I know this? Because of Isaiah 53...

"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities." -- Isaiah 53:5-11

Everything in existence was created by and for and through Jesus Christ. The world is composed of two groups -- those who have been given a new heart with which to understand this truth, and those who haven't been so blessed. It will be the same until Christ returns. But we are told to preach this truth throughout the entire world, confident in the power of the Gospel.

After all, it's a "wheat field," not a "tare field."

I don't think we can go wrong by sticking to the KJV.

It's no coincidence God purposed the King James translation during the height of Elizabethan English which surely is the apex of men's verbal abilities.

Will have to get back to you.

My side believes HEBREWS AND ROMANS AND ALL THE REST OF SCRIPTURE FULLY.

I don’t know that “misunderstandings” of the ages will be resolved in the next 8-12 hours.

i’m wrestling with transferring files from old comptuer to new and trying to get off to pottery. May get back to you this evening. Maybe tomorrow. Thanks for your kind post.

I do not agree with your inferences from Hebrews regarding Blood Israel. I do not think those inferences are consistent with all of Scripture.

Of course, Hebrews is thoroughly true. But how you construe that truth can make a great deal of difference on these issues. I’m convinced ya’ll’s inferences vis a vis Blood Israel are thoroughly wrong and UNBiblical.

Some folks just don’t have that balance in their lives. You can really go overboard when you don’t have discernment. I feel badly for them.

Sounds like a load of, uhhh, salesmanspeak. I've sold a raftload of systems since Vista came out, none of which have any trouble running XP.

Your very wise and valuable, experienced advice would be?

For troubleshooting purposes, get a cheap wired keyboard and mouse. See how they work. Betcha it's hardware.

Sorry for the interruption, folks. We now take you back to our regularly scheduled sound and fury.

Best Buy would have you buy Vista from them. XP Pro would have the correct driver, at least for present. Eventually, and it is NOT today, Vista (or probably it’s replacement in 2009) will have more and better drivers. That is not the case this day.

Vista is a piece of garbage that was nothing but Bloatware, Vaporware, and DRM supreme. It runs, by all reports, 20-30% slower than does Windows XP. Their desktop has finally caught up to what Linux and Mac have done for almost 10 years.

If there are driver issues with a wireless keyboard, my suggestion is to put that keyboard aside until such a time when those issues are resolved. It is less grief than is Windows Vista.

i have Windows XP on this machine, although i don’t use it unless i have to for some proprietary applications, It has worked fine for a Microsoft product. Windows XP will be the last Microsoft operating system that i have. My next machine...which i will build myself...will be exclusively Linux, or it will be a purchased Mac.

Amen.

"I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread." -- Psalm 37:25

"For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.

O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.

And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones.

And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.

In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.

Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.

Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD." -- Isaiah 54:10-17

Thanks to both of you for your kind, thoughtful and knowledgeable responses.

The guy at BB is an older fairly no nonsense, nonplussed guy who knew I’d be buying Vista or whatever through the college. I think he was just giving me his experience and opinion.

The keyboard works fine 95% or so of the time. And worked fine 100% of the time until I downloaded all of McAfee—which came with the machine. I’m convinced it is NOT hardware.

I don’t think hardware would be quite that erratic. But what do I know.

On another matter . . . I still plan to, then, given your wise seDiments re Vista . . . to get XP 64 bit within 1-3 months. Need next semester’s salary first.

So, am hesitant about antivirus. I think I’ve been around and around on what to get. Am absolutely not going with Norton and don’t really think greatly of McCafee. My subscription to System Mechanic 7 just renewed but they don’t know when they’ll have 64 bit out, if at all though I think they do have the Vista version out.

System Mechanic was the only one that kept the memory leak horror at bay on my old computer but that required running the memory fix about every 2-3 hours.

I don’t know if this new machine and new XP-P will have a similar memory leak problem or not. Why wouldn’t it?

Anyway—guess my puzzlement is what to go with for antivirus/firewall/spyware. I will have SPYSWEEPER and 3-4 good registry protecting &/or clean packages.

Thanks in advance.

Slightly sorry for the interruption to the sound and fury but I suspect others may have similar questions after Christmas. So I chose to do this on the thread.

Blessed New Year to you and your loved ones.

LUB,

is what to go with for antivirus/firewall/spyware.

Off topic, yes. AV -- AVG, free for home users, without the bloat and breakage associated with McAfee and Norton.

Firewall -- Windows built in firewall, and stay behind a router.

Malware -- the best protection is between your ears. Stay away from the "feelthy picture" sites, don't click yes on every popup window that tells you to click here. Eschew IE. Spybot 1.5, regular update and manual scan. Know your system, know what's installed on it. "Lean and mean" is what you want, not "every chat client and file sharing program in the universe plus the kitchen sink".
