“Your game of gotcha is an absurd failure.”

No, the reasonable explanation is the simplest one that has been reiterated throughout the New Testament, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved”, “For by grace are you saved through faith; and not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast”. That is what the thief did and it was accounted unto him for righteousness without the tortuous machinations of “exceptions” that only devalue the justice of God.

And the whole idea of an interloping Mary role in competition with Christ is offensively idolatrous and blasphemous almost to the max.

And useless as well!

We have a great High Priest (Heb.10), go to Him!

Do what Mary told the servants to do, 'whatsoever he saith unto you, do it'(Jn.2:6).

Now that is wise advice from Mary!

I could post scores of Scripture references that talk about the importance of “works”...I think the problem is the misunderstanding of works...was not the thiefs defense of Jesus works? Wasn’t his faithful prayer to Him, works?

“without the tortuous machinations of “exceptions” that only devalue the justice of God.”

Jesus Christ’s words to the thief are hardly machinations, but Truth. No man can devalue God’s justice.

The Calvinist approach I’ve seen here is that of some shabby lawyer looking for a loophole in some shabby rental agreement.

In order to conform the plain word of God to the writings of Cauvin, His commands, instructions and gifts must be subjected to these absurd (il)logical gymnastics.

Pitiful.

Calvinism: (n) - the tortuous machinations of “exceptions” that only devalue the justice of God.

The Holy Spirit worked through the the apostles and bishops of the Church, and the Holy Scripture resulted.

Tsk, tsk. This is not the official position of the Church. The Church teaches that they (the Church) simply confirmed the inspiration of the scriptures. The Holy Scriptures were not the result of the Church.

What is really at issue is the Church no longer has any distinction between inspired writings and man-made writings. They will just as soon quote from Anselm or Thomas More as they will from John or Peter.

Do you propose we take YOUR word on the official position of the Catholic Church?

The explanation of what he meant by the idiom “so I ate up every word he said” is what he gave to the disciples.

No, because if the meaning was idiomatic, no commotion over it would have ensued, and the Last Supper would not have repeated the essential of giving His body and blood to eat linking it to the Passion.

I’d love to see evidence that such an idiom was used in the place and time Christ walked the earth.

“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life*, and I will raise him on the last day”

*Exceptions: Theives on crosses who confess me, lepers who have faith, women who pour oil on my feet, and any other people I choose to consider as exceptions. All others must eat my flesh and drink my blood.

People love exceptions.

That’s just it. You intend to tie Christ’s hands. You intend to use any action He took while on earth as a loophole.

He was and is free to do as He pleases, and neither you nor a niggling French lawyer can do thing one about it.

did the thief on the cross eat his flesh and drink his blood since he was going to be with Jesus in paradise?

The Church recognizes that sovereign Christ can draw anyone to Heaven even without His sacraments, which are given us following His ascension, so that we may have eternal life. The baptism, the confession and the Eucharist are ordinary means of grace; in extraordinary circumstances extraordinary events happen. For example, the Church recognized several catechumens, that is, unbaptized candidates for baptism, as martyrs and saints, based on that teaching.

No, please read New Advent.

It never ceases to amaze me how ignorant Catholics are of their own doctrine.

I didn't say they were: I know the English grammar better than that.

Impossible! Christ didn't mean what He said. Jean Cauvin knows better than that!

No, God shows no partiality. God appoints when and where people will die. If the rules were to "eat the flesh and drink the blood" then He would not let that person die before that happened.

It never ceases to amaze me how those who hate the Catholic Church are willing to pull paragraphs from their context and twist them for other meanings.

You stated in post #202:

The Holy Spirit worked through the the apostles and bishops of the Church, and the Holy Scripture resulted.

The Church's official position is:

"These books are held by the Church as sacred and canonical, not as having been composed by merely human labour and afterwards approved by her authority"

You are in error with Church teachings. Repent of your heretical teachings. :O)
