GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senator Barack Obama has told an audience that although he believes Christ died for his sins, those who reject that teaching can also be children of God.
During a campaign stop yesterday in Greensboro, North Carolina, Senator Obama told the audience that he believes he "can have everlasting life" because Jesus Christ died for his sins. But he then told a questioner that he believes Jews and Muslims who live moral lives are just as much "children of God" as he is. (listen to audio clip)
The Illinois Democrat added that his late mother didn't share his faith but was a kind and generous person, so he's "sure she's in heaven." (listen to audio clip)
In his life and in his politics, Obama said he asks himself, "How can I apply Jesus's teachings in a very concrete way?"
Obama's religious beliefs have been put in the spotlight over recent revelations about his former pastor. Videotapes of some of Pastor Jeremiah Wright's sermons have been described as being racist and anti-America.
Yesterday, the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination for president referred to those sermon remarks as being "stupid," but he continues to reject suggestions that he should have left the church because of that kind of preaching from his pastor.
Proof that he’s not a Christian.
Barack may be trying to pass himself off as a Christian but, in my book, he's a Muslim.
Well, the least it proves is that he puts his politics before his faith.
Yes, Christians who ARE Christians would profess that Christ is the only way to salvation.
Truth is if he's asking himself how he can follow the teachings of Jesus and doesn't recognize that Jesus said the only way to the Father was through Him, then Barack knows not of what he speaks.
Yes. He's an "Ecumenical christian", ie. all ways lead to God.
Unfortunately, too many Americans believe this crap!
He isn't a muslim either.. neither is Farrakand..
They are spiritual whores like most people..
Yep. Many people who identify themselves as Christian will say that there’s more than one way to heaven. For example, Joel Osteen said the same thing.
Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures" (I Cor 15:3).
Barack evidently does not understand that to reject this teaching is a rejection of one of the basic tenets of Christianity. Guess he's one of those touchy-feely, if it feels good do it Christians.
There, fixed it for ya! :)
“those who reject that teaching can also be children of God.”
Ooooooo, the Lord’s not going to like that one iota.
You are so correct. Obama is free to have the faith he wishes, but the faith belief he has expressed is NOT Christian. What part of “I am THE way and THE truth and THE life, and no one comes to the Father BUT BY ME” does Obama not believe?
for the modern marxist, religion is a convenient tool, nothing more
I’ve just had a thought, (I know, but it’s tough on a Friday). Now I’ll be thinking about this all weekend. The Jews were (are) called the children of God and they don’t believe Christ died for their sins. Just sayin’... So maybe he is just trying to play with the semantics here.
IMHO, I don't think he's that smart.
I agree. I think that's a given.
BTW, I was an avionics mechanic on OH-6, AH-1G and Uh-1D, H, per your homepage!
Seems to be a lot of old fling-wing pilots and mechanics on FR. ;o)
Sorry if I missed this, but since Osama says "his late mother didn't share his faith" was she a Muslim perhaps? Or is this already known? The two things that can sink his campaign are ties to militant muslims (which this new Hamas article in the church brochure might eventually prove), or ties to racism against not only Jews but all whites, Italians, etc. The anti-Americanism is just the end result of these inner predjudices. What I think will happen is Democrats lose in a landslide and go down in history as trying to elect someone named Hussien while we were in war in Iraq. At least we better hope, but things are looking pretty rough for the DNC right now, even the normally liberal media like ABC and CNN are roasting him right now, just as they should.
I'm in agreement with you, but a lot has to happen between now and November, as in EXPOSE THESE RATS for what they are!
Jews are referred to as “Children of Abraham”
Don’t forget that Obama Hussein Sadaam is the Messiah
If Jesus is not neccessary for Salvation, why did he come in the first place.
I know, my FRiend, it just shows how far away from God our country, collectively has gone!
And I suppose truth doesn’t count for much in Obama’s book either.
You seem astounded!
Don't be, we know that the anti-christ spirit is alive and well in this great country!!
Or are you just in total dis-belief?!
No, none, not a bit of TRUTH!
My ‘Huh?” was meant to mean — Who does Obama think he is saying such things?
Total dis-belief of Obama was what I meant to convey. Sorry to be confusing.
How can Obama CLAIM to be a Christian and come out with such tripe?
Get with the Obama (c)hristian program!!
He's soooooo Ecumenical, ie. all ways lead to God./sheesh
It's what's wrong with our Country!
And just reinforces to me and you what the Bible says about the end times!
And it reinforces how much of an anti-American 'Bama is too!
I believe thats a true statement. We are only condemned for rejecting the light we receive. Likewise, were not saved by the abundance of light we accept. We are saved through Jesus by walking in all the light we have.
The new head bishop of the Episcopal Church said the same thing in interviews with Larry King and Charlie Rose.
It sounds good, but the truth is we do not become a “child of God” until we accept the Lord Jesus as our savior; we then become adopted into God’s family.
Did you know that in biblical times, a natural child could be disowned, but an adopted child could never be cast aside or left with no inheritance.
It is a very special thing to allow ourselves to become adopted by God. It can never be undone.
It also explains very clearly what does and does not make one a child of God.
"He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God." John 1:11-13 NIV
It's very clear that you are not automatically a child of God because of the family you are born into or because you or someone else "declares" it to be so. You must believe that Jesus is God come to the world.
