I went to a Catholic Church once, long ago. Everything was in some foreign language and when the Priest finally got around to the sermon in was long, dry and monotone.

I didn’t go back. Instead I have more recently been checking out Charismatic Churches. I have settled on the Assemblies of God church in my town. They believe what I believe (for the most part) and there is NOTHING boring or foreign about it.

I don’t fault the Catholics for their way of believing, I figure it’s just not for me any more than Mormonism would be.

I used to ask a Jewish friend:

“What’s the status of the war?”

He’d typically reply:

“Lions 6; Christians nothing.”

Your line still brings a cuckle.

May as well laugh, though there’s plenty pathetic to cry about. We are all quite flawed humans with even flawed bliefs and habits. Short of The Rapture, ain’t none of us gettin outta dis heah situation alive in dis heah form. So, iffin de lions come, offer em a BIG toothpick.

A good, healthy, balanced, warm, humble, loving A of G church is very hard to beat. Maybe a similar Vineyard would. Hard to say.

But an unhealthy, unbalanced, cold, hypocritical, unloving A of G church is a bigger stench than most.

My mother’s grandfather started 1st Assembly in this town. And her father later broke off and started another one. Named it FAITH TABERNACLE so it would be ahead of FIRST ASSEMBLY in the phone book.

I knew a couple of—I think—Calvinist/Reformed Marriage Seminar Christians who toured all over the USA and even overseas holding qute good marriage seminars. They commented confidentially that they neve understood how or why—but that the women in the A of G and other Charismatic/Pentecostal groups were several knotches above the other Christian denominations in their physical beauty.

They were quite serious and incredulous as to why that was true. But they’d observed it over and over.

I do wholeheartedly believe that our era will see God’s Holy Spirit doing miraculous things beyond even Moses and Christ’s era. HE did say . . . greater things shall you do . . . God is not going to allow the enemy all the dramatic supernatural stuff with the enemy’s counterfeit dramas.

“Uhhhh, the RC edifice came along around 300-400 years after Christ.”

Uhhh, the Catholic Church possesses an unbroken line of succession to the first Pope, St. Peter, 32 AD...

Your pick - Neutral source, Wikipedia, or an approved Catholic source, New Advent Catholic Encyclopedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_popes

http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/12272b.htm

I think you have confused Constantine's (a Roman Emperor, not a Pope), recognition of Christianity as a recognized religion during the 4th century. This had nothing to do with the birth of the Catholic Church, which took place on the Cross, and was entrusted to St. Peter and the Apostles by Jesus Christ himself.

Agreed on all counts.

to the RC edifice rubberized histories.

I also think the enemy assaults A of G and other Charismatic/Pentecostal churchs way above average . . . within and without . . .

because

. . . a form of godliness but denying the power thereof . . .

sorts of congregations, denominations are much less a threat to satan’s kingdom.

Well I would add that if you were reffering to a particular church that is well represented on the forum, Satan has targeted them as well, and perhaps even a bit more publicly what with all the scandals of recent years. I guess I am more of a “all who accept Christ are going to Heaven” kind of guy, and if I am wrong, I am wrong. I am willing to live with being wrong. I believe that Protestant and Catholic both will be side by side worshipping our Lord and Savior “live” and in “person” in the hereafter...so long as they have accepted the Jesus of the Bible as Lord and Savior.

Of course you don’t.

People who choose their own personal versions of history will give credence only to.... their own personal versions of history.

Surely there are objective souces? Ones not written by “the church” or by those that support/detract from it?

“Surely there are objective sources? Ones not written by “the church” or by those that support/detract from it?”

1. Please be assured that yes, there is a single, objective source.

2. If there was not a single truth, surely, the last 2,000 years of Christianity would all be a farce, and as such, Jesus Christ would have been the biggest deceiver aside from Satan who had ever walked the earth.

Now, there are literally thousands of self proclaimed “objective” sources who/which claim to hold the truths of Christianity. From these, surely, there IS one that does in fact possess the fullness of this truth. And there can only be ONE. And it is the ONE that possessed the entire deposit of knowledge and faith of Christianity. It is up to each of us, through our own free will to choose. However, through our free will we often come up short.

No.

I was NOT referring to any particular Christian club.

I agree . . . all who Trust Jesus as Savior etc. will be with Him eternally . . .

probably initially chagrinned to see who else He let in! LOL.

Much agree.

Historically accurate sources are not as much in Rome’s hip pocket as many think.

I read something on another thread last night that makes so much sense.

“It’s OK to call all Catholics liars, but it’s not OK to call individual FReepers liars.”

Something to think about.

Which is why I disagree with your hogwash statement in #173

Seems it's okay to say lots of things about Catholics, which is why developing that Teflon-coating exterior has served me well.

At the root of it all is the fact that God is Love, but some folks have a selective memory.
