Missouri-Synod Lutherans protest cancellation of radio show (Issues Etc)
St Louis Post Dispatch ^ | 4-15-08 | Tim Townsend

Kirkwood — About 75 protesters gathered Monday outside the world headquarters of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, many holding signs that asked simply, "Why?"

The question was directed at church leaders who, during Holy Week last month, pulled the plug on a popular radio program on the denomination's KFUO-AM station called "Issues, Etc."

The host, the Rev. Todd Wilken, and producer, Jeff Schwarz, were fired without warning, and all reference to the show was taken off KFUO's website. Fans were left confused and angry.

...

In the vacated time slot, the church has launched a new program called "The Afternoon Show," with topics Strand said should have a broader appeal.

Some great commentary on it here:

Where were the official synodical periodicals?

Here are some LOVELY samples of this inanity:

Two Samples of the Afternoon Show

Also note that Kieschnick in the Annual meeting of 2006 told pastors that they MAY NOT speak or teach against anything the Synod is doing.

And several district pastors's conferences (in direct violation of that, good for them!) have called for a public apology and reinstatement of Jeff and Todd.

It will take far more than that though. Kieschnick and those like him need to be removed from any position of leadership. They need to be 'allowed to leave' because it seems pretty clear to most they'd be happier in a different denomination.

Found an interesting bit on Kieschnick and VP Diekelman being sued for fraud in permitting some electoral circuits to send delegates to the 2004 Synod Convention. It asks the court to throw out the election of Kieschnick and Diekelman, to order a new election and to overturn all Convention actions that limit the authority of Synod’s Board of Directors.

I'm not even Lutheran, and I was disgusted with this decision. Issues, etc was one of my favorite radio programs on Sunday nights. I was so impressed with it that I was considering looking into the local Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod).

For now, I think I'll stay where I am.

I hear ya. When we got purpose driven out of our church in 2005, LCMS was at the top of the list. But then I heard about Kieschnick from Southflanknorthpawsis and Kieschnick is pushing the same thing, so instead we drive 25 miles to the closest AFLC church.

But there are individual pastors in the AFLC that are promoting church growth error as well

case in point, Jim Johnson of Good Shepherd Church (see they left out Lutheran) of Camarillo CA

Yes, I posted the article this morning, several hours earlier. This thread here is actually the duplicate. Can the thread I posted be restored? I posted it in the News/Activism forum, under the "Culture" topic, at around 8:00 or 9:00 Central time (6:00 or 7:00 Pacific) this morning. My thread had a number of photos, also.

Well, I have no idea why my properly posted--and first posted--thread was pulled, but in case it is not restored, I will post here (within the next few minutes) the photos I had posted there.

Also, lightman, would you please put out a Lutheran Ping for this thread?

Thanks for the ping. That radio show never aired here in our area. Most LCMS members haven’t heard of this show.

I'm the guy about 80% to the right, holding the sign that says, "THE SILENCE OF THE LCMS." My 12-year-old daughter is the girl on the far right of the picture:
